A notoriously 'gay-friendly' parish in San Francisco has invited an openly homosexual Episcopalian cleric to lead an Advent Vespers service.
Most Holy Redeemer parish asked Bishop Otis Charles, a retired Episcopalian prelate, to lead the November 30 service. After serving as the Bishop of Utah from 1971 to 1993, he publicly announced that he is homosexual. Divorced from the mother of his 5 children, he solemnized a same-sex union in 2004.
the Holy Spirit doesn’t use human beings to bring other human beings to Christ???
funny, my Bible tells me the Holy Spirit used Philip to bring the eunuch to Christ in Acts 8.
does your Bible have Acts 8 in it?
Your arguments about Mary and just about everything else about Catholicism are red herrings that have nothing to do with what Catholics actually believe.
see post #3152
Yeppers, but they are careful to say "I ask you" instead of "I pray you." They'd be careful not to use that there "old English type" of words or God would slap 'em silly for being so high-falutin instead using real modern good English speakin'.
"Yo, God..."
I would not have you ignorant. Israel is the nation of Israel. The Gentiles are the church.
Romans 11:25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in. Then God will turn away ungodliness from Jacob. He will turn their heart to Him.
26 And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:
God mad a covenant with them and He will not break that covenant.
27 For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.
Israel is now enemies for the sake of the Gentiles so the Gentiles (the church) can obtain salvation. But Israel is still the elect of God
28 As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the father's sakes.
God said the gifts and calling of Israel are without repentance.
29 For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.
The Gentiles (the church) obtained mercy through Israels unbelief.
30 For as ye in times past have not believed God, yet have now obtained mercy through their unbelief :
All you have to do is read the passage.
****Further People saved, and not, do not need lessons or instructions about Mary. They need to hear and be taught about their Savior Jesus Christ...and the gospel message He gave us.*****
The Savior had a mother and Mary was her name and the Son of God came to us through her both physically and spiritually.
The Divine and the Human, God and Man, the Word made Flesh.
When God came to us in our own form, first as a newly conceived embryo, then as a fetus and then as a newborn child, I think He pretty much let us know what He thinks of Mary.
There is no discussion of Mary which does not have at its core the Sacred Name of Jesus.
“I am the handmaid of the Lord, let it be done to me according to thy will.”
My soul magnifies the Lord,
and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior;
Because He has regarded the lowliness of His handmaid;
for behold, henceforth all generations shall call me blessed;
Because He who is mighty has done great things for me,
and Holy is His Name;
And His mercy is from generation to generation on those who fear Him.
He has shown might with His arm,
He has scattered the proud in the conceit of their heart.
He has put down the mighty from their thrones,
and has exalted the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent away empty.
He has given help to Israel, His servant, mindful of His mercy
Even as He spoke to our fathers -
to Abraham and to his posterity forever.
Really? We can learn nothing about Jesus through Mary?
ok, you say Israel is the nation of Israel.
in other words, physical Jews.
tell me then, were the Jews Jesus was speaking to in John 8:24 “Israel” and therefore according to Romans 11, will they be saved?
That picture pretty much sums up the radical Evangelical approach to salvation. You do the work God. I’ll just sleep and be lazy.
funny, my Bible tells me the Holy Spirit used Philip to bring the eunuch to Christ in Acts 8.
If we're going to work on anyone being able to lead someone to Christ, then Mary isn't so special in that regard anyway. Not enough to warrant the kind of attention she gets from Catholics.
****Jesus never presented his mother as his Equal...never...***
Neither have I nor has any other Catholic here, nor does the Church.
****Jesus was the oldest son, it was His responsibility to always see that His mother was cared for. This was Jewish custom and also part of honoring ones parents in accordance with the commandment.*****
Really? Jesus, the Savior of mankind is hanging on a cross with stakes through His hands and feet, and this after having suffered an horrific whipping and having been paraded through the streets carrying the very cross on which He died, and at the last minute, in between saying “I thirst,” and “Father, why have you forsaken me?” and “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.” and “It is finished.”, Jesus realized that He had not made provision for the care of His mother and I guess, since John was there, he got stuck with her.
Really?
Thank you God, Father Almighty, for the gift of your Son, Jesus Christ and with Him, the gift of His mother, our mother. May we who hear and obey Your Word always rejoice in their most wondrous love.
2 Sam. 22:2 And he said, The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; 3 The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence.
Psalm 18:31, "And who is a rock, except our God."
Isaiah 44:8, "Is there any God besides Me, or is there any other Rock? I know of none."
Rom. 9:33, "Behold, I lay in Zion a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense, and he who believes in Him will not be disappointed."
1 Cor. 3:11, "For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ,"
1 Cor. 10:4, "and all drank the same spiritual drink, for they were drinking from a spiritual rock (petras) which followed them; and the rock (petra) was Christ."
1 Pet. 2:8, speaking of Jesus says that he is "A stone of stumbling and a rock (petra) of offense"; for they stumble because they are disobedient to the word, and to this doom they were also appointed."
1 Peter 2:4 To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious, 5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. 6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded. 7 Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, 8 And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.
Nothing we can't learn from reading Scripture or the leading of the Holy Spirit, which makes Mary redundant at best.
Speaking of clueless.
Christians rejoice when anyone who is to be saved is added to the Church.
( however and whoever the Holy Spirit decides to move )
Come on now, each and every protestant here has come with everything they think all on their own. They have learned nothing from others, even how to read. God gave them a Bible on the day they were born, taught them how to read it, and interprets it for them.
Get with the program.
One is allowed to interpret the Bible however they want, as long as it is in opposition to the Church.
Even your beloved CC says there are three distinct persons.
The Trinity is the term employed to signify the central doctrine of the Christian religion the truth that in the unity of the Godhead there are Three Persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, these Three Persons being truly distinct one from another.

Do you disagree with them?
to the non-Catholic the Church is a man made organization that they are free to reject like the moose club.
to Christians, we know it is the Body of Christ, outside of which there is NO SALVATION.
it is folly to them.
Catholics normally do not simply discuss the Trinity without simultaneously discussing the unity.
Shall we split hairs on ‘how’ God got his message to us? Rather how about the message sent...about and to whom? That way at least we know if there’s agreement on the foundation of what the rest is built. If there’s no agreement there...then nothing else will mesh...pro con or otherwise.
In John 8 Jesus is talking to individuals not a nation.
