Mark, all things work together for good for those that love the Lord.

I thank God that the phony catholics post.

why? because it allows real Catholics to proclaim the truth of the Faith once delivered to the saints.

it probably is the first time many people have actually heard what the historical, Biblical and orthodox Faith is.

Matthew 7:21 Not every one that said to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that does the will of my Father which is in heaven.

There are conditions on God’s promise. There are conditions on the inheritance. There are conditions on salvation.

Unless you think that Paul trumps Jesus. Unless you think that Paul is the Messiah and Jesus only pointed the way to Paul. Unless you think that Jesus is irrelevant to the Gentiles. Unless you think that the Son of God is only second rate compared to the writings of Paul.

It does seem rather conclusive.

We are in agreement, my friend.

everyone should read Acts 22:16 to see when we call on the name of the Lord.

Exodus 20:4-6 4 "You shall NOT make for yourself
a carved image,
or any likeness
of anything
that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. 5 You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the LORD your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me, 6but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.

A condition!!! You must be baptized!!!

But wait!!! Does that mean that the Protestants are no longer allowed to self declare their own salvation?

How long will that last, do you suppose?

For those whose religion is based on being ex-Catholic? As long as there's a rebellious bone in their body.

As you noted, they've been re-catechized on the key points over and over again on these threads and still persist in false nonsense claiming to be Catholic teaching. The only thing new we occasionally see is a different snippet claiming to prove it.

I miss the Protestants who actually knew much of what the Church teaches, believed in something not just because it wasn't Catholic, and who knew and could explain why.

With many of our separated brethren, it is not about what is right, it is about who is right. The god in the mirror is obviously right, no matter what silly idea arises.

D,

i agree. it would actually be interesting and educational to converse with non-Catholics who actually understand Catholic doctrine and Church history.

all we seem to get on this board are phonies, know nothings, cultists, and “untruth” tellers.

surely there must be one non-Catholic that understands what baptism is.
i guess no Lutherans or Anglicans post here.

They used to. And some quite knowledgeable Baptists. Occasionally interesting discussions would break out for long periods...

They’ve left for pretty obvious reasons. There was more self - policing back then I think. The new rules have had good and bad results.

My soul magnifies the Lord,
And my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.
For He has regarded the low estate of His handmaiden,
For behold, henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
For He who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is His name. And His mercy is on those who fear Him from generation to generation.
He has shown strength with His arm:
He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
He has put down the mighty from their thrones,
and exalted those of low degree.
He has filled the hungry with good things;
and the rich He has sent empty away.
He has helped His servant Israel, in remembrance of His mercy;
As He spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to His posterity forever.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen

Magníficat ánima mea Dóminum,
et exsultávit spíritus meus
in Deo salvatóre meo,
quia respéxit humilitátem
ancíllæ suæ.

Ecce enim ex hoc beátam
me dicent omnes generatiónes,
quia fecit mihi magna,
qui potens est,
et sanctum nomen eius,
et misericórdia eius in progénies
et progénies timéntibus eum.
Fecit poténtiam in bráchio suo,
dispérsit supérbos mente cordis sui;
depósuit poténtes de sede
et exaltávit húmiles.
Esuriéntes implévit bonis
et dívites dimísit inánes.
Suscépit Ísrael púerum suum,
recordátus misericórdiæ,
sicut locútus est ad patres nostros,
Ábraham et sémini eius in sæcula.

Glória Patri et Fílio
et Spirítui Sancto.
Sicut erat in princípio,
et nunc et semper,
et in sæcula sæculórum.

Amen.

She became the Mother of God, in which work so many and such great good things are bestowed on her as pass man’s understanding. For on this there follows all honor, all blessedness, and her unique place in the whole of mankind, among which she has no equal, namely, that she had a child by the Father in heaven, and such a Child . . . Hence men have crowded all her glory into a single word, calling her the Mother of God . . . None can say of her nor announce to her greater things, even though he had as many tongues as the earth possesses flowers and blades of grass: the sky, stars; and the sea, grains of sand. It needs to be pondered in the heart what it means to be the Mother of God.

(Commentary on the Magnificat, 1521; in Luther’s Works, Pelikan et al, vol. 21, 326)

We Catholics bow our heads (literally) and we plead for mercy from Him. We do not declare that we are the Church and we get to declare our own salvation. Now, that is pride. I'd like to see that when they offer that up to the King of Kings.

Bowing the head and/or the knees is NOT what God requires for salvation. It MUST be the emotional and intellectual equivalent of doing so that God wants and, only then, is the physical act accepted. By confessing with our mouths that Jesus is Lord and believing in our hearts that God raised him from the dead is what God says saves us. One who has done so can be assured of eternal life and to continue to beg and plead for God's mercy to save us after he has already done so is demonstrating a lack of faith not a humble faith.

When you say "We do not declare that we are the Church", are you speaking as an individual or as a member of a Church that most certainly DOES declare that "we, and ONLY we, are the Church". What you label as "pride" only appears so to those who do not have confidence in the promises of God. In fact, I think it is MORE prideful to think I must still do more to earn my salvation. When we come to saving faith in Jesus Christ we leave ALL pride at the foot of the cross because we can do nothing of ourselves to merit the unspeakable gift of God's grace. God gives us the choice, believe and be saved or reject the gift and be damned. Those who do not believe are condemned already, Jesus said. Those who believe are NOT condemned, he also proclaimed.

Excellent work, as usual. Thank you. I appreciate all the careful and well-reasoned, as well as Scriptural, effort you take in your responses. It shows, to me, a person who takes dialog on a religion forum thread seriously, knowing that peoples' very souls are at stake. I have been avoiding this thread for a few days because of how dank and septic the atmosphere had become. I thank God that you as well as some others refuse to contribute to that toxic attitude and continue to speak up as you are led by God. Praise his wonderful name!

No, I don't. I do have a theory why s/he was singled out however.

In my list of threads were 17 links. 16 were by nonCatholics, most of whom are well known here. One was by a Catholic and the other by a Calvinist whose account has been banned.

Of the 17 links described above, fifteen of the sixteen by nonCatholics were ignored and two were singled out for comment, thus:

" a hit piece on Calvin by a Catholic… And a thread by the now banned and likely retreaded Christian Capitalist?
Methinks the mystery is solved!
