Gay Episcopal Bishop to Preach at San Francisco Catholic Parish

A notoriously 'gay-friendly' parish in San Francisco has invited an openly homosexual Episcopalian cleric to lead an Advent Vespers service.

Most Holy Redeemer parish asked Bishop Otis Charles, a retired Episcopalian prelate, to lead the November 30 service. After serving as the Bishop of Utah from 1971 to 1993, he publicly announced that he is homosexual. Divorced from the mother of his 5 children, he solemnized a same-sex union in 2004.

I did not desert the *Faith*. I found faith and left legalism in the form of Catholicism for freedom in Christ.

Odd statement, for one that claimed that Christ was legally bound to save your soul.

I attend church because the Scriptural command is to not forsake the assembling of ourselves together, not because it's a sin to miss church.

So it really is all about what the god in the mirror says today.

Those who claim salvation on themselves and who would compel God to acquiese to their own Judgement.

Sometimes the only useful reply to a post is "Seek help immediately."

But it's the internet, actual intervention is not possible and engaging someone in this condition just feeds the problem. I pray that posts of this nature are not made by someone in complete isolation, at least not yet, and they will listen to someone nearby when they, too, advise: "Seek help."

Until then, not engaging, ignoring, definitely not commending these kinds of posts, is IMHO, the best that can be done here.

Catholic converts to Protestantism start with bitterness.

Protestant converts to Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy start with a desire to know more and do it for intellectual reasons.

Most Catholics who convert to Protestantism only had a rudimentary superficial understanding of Catholicism.

That is exactly what not only my own experience indicates, but also what the failed Catholics here post repeatedly.

I don’t place my faith in the Pope, priests, bishops, etc. The trouble is so many Catholics are poorly educated about their faith, especially since Vatican II.

Good works are worthless if they are done for selfish reasons. Any Catholic who just goes through the motions and doesn’t do them with a heart of Christian charity might as well have not performed them.

Good works merit grace as long as they were initiated by God’s grace. It’s a matter of cooperating with God as St. Paul says in 1 Corinthians 1 3:9. http://www.greek-dictionary.net/synergos

I doubt that you would ever study how the Israelites had strayed from serving God in the way God commanded. It did however begin with Semeramis and her son Tamuz who were the first “mother and child” to be revered the results of which led to God’s condemnation in Ezekiel.

Both. I started out debating a Catholic trad friend in much the same way our counterparts are here.

But I decided to see if the whole bit about Martin Luther restoring primitive Christianity was true or not from an empirical sense.

Mind you that I was quite anti-Catholic because of my anti-Catholic family background complete with my ex-Catholic father.

So what I hear on FR from the Protestants are cliches.
