Gay Episcopal Bishop to Preach at San Francisco Catholic Parish
Catholic Culture ^ | 11/22/11

Posted on 11/23/2011 11:11:08 AM PST by marshmallow

A notoriously 'gay-friendly' parish in San Francisco has invited an openly homosexual Episcopalian cleric to lead an Advent Vespers service.

Most Holy Redeemer parish asked Bishop Otis Charles, a retired Episcopalian prelate, to lead the November 30 service. After serving as the Bishop of Utah from 1971 to 1993, he publicly announced that he is homosexual. Divorced from the mother of his 5 children, he solemnized a same-sex union in 2004.

I don’t know. It looks like that post was pulled but if I remember it claimed a source as a book. It looks like you can download the book and read it yourself here:

The parallel between the Pharisees and their legalism and ANY established religion with a hierarchy and rules and regs is not hard to see.

>>I’ve seen quite a bit of legalism out of Fundamentalists. You just don’t understand. You can quote scripture all you like, but you still keep demonstrating your lack of understanding.

Catholic converts to Protestantism start with bitterness.

Protestant converts to Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy start with a desire to know more and do it for intellectual reasons.

Most Catholics who convert to Protestantism only had a rudimentary superficial understanding of Catholicism.

Our salvation as Catholics rooted in our faith in Jesus Christ and our supernatural encounter with him physically and corporeally in the sacraments.

I don’t place my faith in the Pope, priests, bishops, etc. The trouble is so many Catholics are poorly educated about their faith, especially since Vatican II.

Amen, metmom. And the Spirit of God lives within us all the time.

Mark, what is this faith you speak of? deserted the Faith

Now I'm off to Praise and Worship the ONLY ONE worthy of praise - JESUS, The ONE Way, The ONE Truth, the ONE Life with more members of His Body, my brothers and sisters 'in Christ'. And who are they?

"For whoever does the will of My Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother." Matt 12:50

Thank You, Jesus, as we follow YOU and YOUR Ways of YOUR Supernatural Kingdom and not the ways of this secular world.

"Just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so My Ways are higher than your ways, and My Thoughts are higher than your thoughts." Isaiah 55:9

No the book is not at that website. I found other sources for that quote from a number of anti-Catholic websites. You’ll pardon me if I don’t take your non-authoritative word for it.

Good works are worthless if they are done for selfish reasons. Any Catholic who just goes through the motions and doesn’t do them with a heart of Christian charity might as well have not performed them.

Good works merit grace as long as they were initiated by God’s grace. It’s a matter of cooperating with God as St. Paul says in 1 Corinthians 1 3:9.

I'll restrain myself this time.

It is often my custom . . . largely to avoid fierce word exchanges . . . to post gifs to outrageous assertions.

This assertion is an outrageous, demonstrably false rationalization--particularly about such as MetMom, Dr Eckleberg's hubby etc. It may be a convenient rationalization to improve RC comfort. It's just NOT TRUE. We proddys find it outrageously glib and farcical.

It is one of the classic knee-jerk RC responses on FR. It demonstrates demeaning and supremely haughtily insulting hostility to the Proddys posting out of an extensive well taught RC background.

WHEN y'all post such things, imho, y'all deserve fierceness back.

Sure, SOME former RC's were not taught well. MOST frequent Proddy posters ON FR WERE TAUGHT EXTREMELY WELL and know Roman Catholicism extensively with great breadth and depth. Some taught the RC catechism with great effect and applauds from their superiors.

It is this sort of 'insufferable' arrogance and haughtiness in posts which deserve the fierce proddy response.

Nevertheless, it is RC !!!!TRADITION!!!! to construe Proddys as sooooo beyond the pale that anything nasty and UNTRUE can be said about proddys with purported, assumed, prissy arrogant impunity from the RC perspective. Sadly, they seem to have brainwashed some others on FR into buying into that mentality.

It's my thankless duty--on occasion--to not allow such assumptions without a starkly fierce response they deserve.

Of course, !!!!TRADITIONALLY!!!! thin-skinned RC's cannot well handle being called on their junk. BY DAFFYNITION THEY HAVE NO JUNK. Their INSTITUTION is construed as GOD etc. etc. etc. So any calling a spade a spade by a Proddy MUST be castigated in the fiercest most personally assaultive terms. It's FR !!!!TRADITION!!!!

The blasphemous heretical theology of the RCC is horrific enough. However, I'm increasingly convinced that it's the arrogance that will keep many of them out of Heaven.

I don’t recall ever doing so.

I have always thought that was an excellent walking out of your faith.

I have no way of seeing your heart but I have ASSUMED that you have done such sacrificial duties out of a good heart.

Certainly I prefer to applaud such efforts than throw rocks at them.

My question on this one would be “when did the RCC abdicate the responsibility of the church to the government”?

“Access to adequate medical attention, the pope said in a written message Nov. 18, was one of the "inalienable rights" of man.

When did that happen? There is no scriptural support and secular government is not the purview of the church.

The entire mindset of those letters indicates the propensity for a “one world government” and a totally socialistic trend. The only scriptural truth that can be gleaned is that prophesy is correct for the “end of this age”.

I just now downloaded it from that site using the link in my post 2522. Would you say the above statement would then be an untruth? I downloaded it in txt format from a list of many available. It only took about 10 seconds to download. Microsoft word opens it in txt format with 168 pages.

The beginning of the book starts thus:

An abomination before men may be something very different in His sight who searches the heart and reins of man and measures evil by the malice of the evil-doer. The only good or evil He sees in our deeds is the good or evil we ourselves see in them before or while we act.

Violence and fear may oppress the will, and thereby prove destructive to the morality of an act and the responsibility of the agent. Certain it is, that we can be forced to act against our will, to perform that which we abhor, and do not consent to do. Such force may be brought to bear upon us as we cannot withstand. Fear may influence us in a like manner. It may paralyze our faculties and rob us of our senses. Evidently, under these conditions, no voluntary act is possible, since the will does not concur and no consent is given. The subject becomes a mere tool in the hands of another.

Can violence and fear do more than this? Can it not only rob us of the power to will, not only force us to act without consent, but also force

Speak only for yourself. I volunteer at our local Christian Homeless Shelter/Mission all of the time. In fact, I’m there so much that I’m not considered a “volunteer” anymore but part of the “family”. Your comments that the “harpies”, as you call us in derision, don’t serve those who have less than us is totally an untruth. You are the ones who are prideful in what you do by boasting about it. We just do it - not worrying about the recognition.
