To disagree with the views of the majority isn’t to place my religious beliefs in the back seat to my political views.

Could you tell us if your Religious veiws nshape your political views?

The author missed the mark. LDS inc is a cult off-shoot of the original Mormonism as fabricated by Joseph Smith. Mormonism is not a cult of Christianity because it started out so different from Christianity, claiming in fact that it was the only ‘real’ church of Jesus Christ. The split between LDS inc and the other lines of Mormonism is where the cult aspect should be applied.

Elsie — my Christian faith shapes, informs and and undergirds ALL my beliefs.

Has the Religion Forum now become an Inquisition to determine which Freepers are “Religious” enough?

If you want my Bonafides, I can give them to you. I can go back almost 30 years as an activist — a Conservative and Christian (”Religious Right”) Activist. A part of the “Reagan Coalition.” President of College Republicans 1 year in College. Chairman of campus Chapter of Students for America 2 years (nation-wide organization founded by Ralph Reed). Republican Party County Executive Committeeman — until I resigned the post in 1996 and LEFT the Party — because they were TOO LIBERAL. Member and participant in various right-to-life organizations, patriotic groups, protests, demonstrations, etc., and one of the first people to identify with the fledgling Tea Party” movement in South Carolina. And — most important to me — I have been a Christian since September 28th, 1980, when I trusted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. I have been a Minister of the Gospel since 1987 (when I was licensed to Gospel ministry), and I was ordained in 1988. I have pastored Churches in NC, SC and TN. I am now a College Professor in Divinity at a Private Christian College, and and Adjunct Professor of Humanities at a Community College.

I would say I was Conservative before being Conservative was cool — but I’ve been Conservative so long it’s not cool anymore. So — do I qualify, or am I kicked out of the “He-man Commie-haters Club”? :-)

I should add that sometimes I am too snarky for my own good. Sarcasm and facetiousness are my “spiritual gifts,” but then, I see I’m not alone on Free Republic. :-)

My warning to you began with the word "if." If it doesn't apply to you, then fine.

Also, as stated in the Religion Forum guidelines, when one poster in a dispute has been warned, everyone else in the dispute should consider him/herself warned.

It is axiomatic on the Religion Forum that an RF poster's religious beliefs affect what he does including how he casts his votes.

My point is that if a poster wishes to argue against that axiom, this is the wrong forum - he should take the argument to the political side of the house, the News/Activism forum.

No; not really. I just wanted that answer.

I agree with you; but it appears that you are saying that MITT's 'beliefs' will NOT affect the way he RULES from office.

Sis :-) Certainly the way Romney believes will effect the way he governs — that’s true of everyone. Including Barack Obama (perhaps especially him)!

As I’ve said, Romney is not trustworthy for a multitude of reasons, but given only a choice between Romney and Obama, I’d choose Romney every time. ON THE OTHER HAND, in our nations circumstances right now, a choice of Romney would be far short of what is necessary to save out nation from going over the precipice.

Do I believe, all things being equal, Romney is smarter than Obama? Yes. Does he know more about business? Yes. Is he, however, FREE of special interests, of the “moderate mentality that he has to “please” that “middle of the road crowd” that Republicans can never find on Election day but always SEE in campaign season? No, of course not. Can I trust Mitt’s words, his promise of reform? Are you joking! Were he to become President he would immediately capitulate to as many Democrats demand as he would to his Conservative base. That’s not due to his Mormonism, that’s due to his wishy-washy, play both sides against the middle mindset.

Thus, my conclusion — If Romney is the only choice Conservatives have, it is not likely to matter much who wins between Obama and Romney. One is flying us directly into the ground, the other is gonna try to bring us in so are crash landing isn’t quite so hard. But the crash is unavoidable now.

Just my $.02 worth.....

I like Mitt Romney and believe he could be a fine president under different circumstances. As a born-again Christian, I cannot vote for him.

Well, if morons like Babs won't vote against Willard for the right reasons, I'll settle for the wrong reasons. A vote against Willard is a vote against Willard!

We seem to agree on most everything, except that I think a person’s religion IS a valid item to be considered when choosing for whom to vote.

I’ve never said it wasn’t! Look at it this way — whose values are closer to yours, a Mormon or a Marxist?

I know, Romney is not a Christian, and maybe not even a good Mormon — but his values are closer to those of Christians that Barack Obama’s Marxist and Muslim-tinged values.

You might say, “alright then, I will vote for a 3rd party candidate, or right someone in.” Others have said that on this thread (in less than kind terms to me). I’m fine with that — but one must realize that will not change the outcome, and very well might guarantee the outcome is negative. If one can live with that, or invites that, well and good.

I’m in no hurry to see the collapse of the United States come. I think it’s inevitable, should nothing change. But when it comes, it will be so completely ugly, it will be beyond anything most Americans have ever imagined. That is why I take a cautious and measured approach to my vote. Exactly because it is precious.

Religion DOES play an exceedingly important role in my choice of for whom I vote. I just don’t insist that the one who gets my vote must be of the same denomination, persuasion or religion than I am. That divorces reason and common sense from the process of electing leaders. I believe God gave us a brain, and we should use it, not merely be reactionaries “against” something. Stand for principles, and advocate FOR something. And work from there.

Thanks for actually engaging in conversation rather than blasting me with condemnation. Too many who call themselves “conservatives” have lost the ability to think in their very valid and real anger. We can’t turn into a mob, we have to be smarter than the nuts on the other side.

If all you have to add to the discussion on the Religion Forum is ad hominem then ignore it altogether. The guideline for all posts here:

Discuss the issues all you want, but do not make it personal.

Also, do not use potty language or references to potty language on the Religion Forum. All such posts are automatically removed.

You're relatively new in the MORMON battleground; so ya get some slack.

We REALLY try to 'condemn' the system of MORMONism; but SOME folks are just SO hardheaded that we &^#^%&%$(@%#$!!
