That's why it's always funny to see people playing little games about the approach the Bereans took to Scripture when they very clearly refuse to accept the same Scriptures the Bereans were referring to. I fear, however, that's just too complex a thought for those who believe in the, Lego Block Method of Scripture Interpretation" to grasp. I would, after all, require them to be aware of the entire Scripture of what we call the Old Testament as it existed for the Bereans and continued to exist for Christianity right up until Luther.
Apostles never said a negative thing about what was included in the Scriptures the Bereans were searching, yet Luther would have given that he threw portions out. Obviously, like Luther, many people today like to claim they believe in Scripture Alone when in reality they believe in Subset Alone. The Bereans, to their credit, are no where accused of throwing out portions of the Scriptures prior to doing their searching of them.
The point had nothing to do with the Bereans. It had to do with Paul commending anyone for using scripture alone for testing what a teacher was teaching. Something Catholics seem to miss.
