Catholics get a bad rap for thinking we somehow “merit” or “earn” our own sanctification (and salvation) through “works” that we do. But that’s a misunderstanding of what the Catholic Church actually teaches. Our sanctification (our being made holy) happens only by the Grace of God. But it does require a response on our part. We must cooperate with it. This submission to and cooperation with God’s Grace, Catholics call a “work” and it takes various forms.
Some identify this response to God’s grace as a kind of “saving” or “justifying” faith (a faith that produces or is accompanied by works of conversion, hope and charity) as opposed to a “work” – something we do. Such a position is reconcilable with Catholic teaching once we understand each side’s terminology. On the other hand, I think it’s confusing to refer to this cooperation with and submission to God’s Grace as simply “faith alone” – which is one reason Catholics don’t refer to it that way (and probably one reason the Bible says we are “not” saved by “faith alone” – James 2:24).
Anyway, here Fr. Barron speaks a little bit about some of these sanctifying practices of the Church and what we mean by “Purgatory” (an extension of that sanctification) in the super-natural sense.

This exclusive preview clip was from CATHOLICISM, Episode X: WORLD WITHOUT END: THE LAST THINGS.
Explore the Churchs conviction that life here and now is preparation for an extraordinary world that is yet to come a supernatural destiny. Father Barron presents the Catholic vision of death, judgment, heaven, hell and purgatory as he journeys to Florence, Ireland and Rome.
The vision of the Church sees beyond this world and invites us to consider a world without end. Father Barron shows how this vision is supported by the mystery and truth of the Resurrection of Jesus.

I fail to understand how the Episcopal Church comes into play here. Did you not reference the story of the Eunuch to prove your point that someone needs instruction or explanation? If so, the RCC is not just explaining, its injecting meaning and adding to meaning. Thats not Sola Scriptura.
Nah, not much. We don't fall for the RCC double speak.
Correct.
Did you not reference the story of the Eunuch to prove your point that someone needs instruction or explanation?
No, I did not.
The argument would be an attempt to prove. I did not make an argument. I DID say how one of mine would start.
But my principle point was that assumption corrupts discourse. I made the point, and you gave an example.
Guess we’ll have to switch to latin to avoid the changing meanings...
Oh, wait, latin is verbotten as well.
Perhaps Klingon...
go away. We Christians are talking. If your non-Christian cult wants to discuss how many times to bow, go ahead. No one believes folks who sometimes claim to be Baptist, sometimes Catholic, sometimes Gnostic etc. — taqqiya has its failures.
There are a number of anti-Catholic posters that I completely ignore. I do not read their posts, nor do I respond or ping them. He is among them. I can share my list with you in Freepmail, but I'm sure you have a pretty good idea who is on it. I have added four more names today, though. It makes FR so much more pleasant.
No language change is going to help the side who does not understand what scripture is saying D-fendr. The Holy Spirit is not restricted by human language. Either we rely strictly on the Holy Spirit and the written word or we rely on a fallible human. If each person who has accepted Christ as savior is in dwelt with the Holy Spirit there is no need for someone to teach us what isnt in scripture. If someone tries to explain to us what scripture is saying by pointing to other scripture the Holy Spirit inside of us will testify to the truth.
It seems we can always rely on you to use those tactics. Most every time I have observed you in a debate with someone it gets down to that level with you. Unbelievable.
If they don't read or don't understand why
- repeating the conclusion is not an argument
- argumentum ad hominem is fallacious
- poisoning the well is not an argument
- misconstrung youroppenents thought is not an argument
then it's time to ignore.
My biggest problem there is that I forget who is on my ignore list or don't notice who's posting because I am captivated by the post.
Hey, make sure my name is on that list will ya? Please?
You are far more pastoral than I. When I grow up I want to be Mad Dawg.
LOL! Without the waist-line.
But srsly, it’s ridiculous. You should want to be Natural Law. My research indicates that God has great plans for him.
You know how much I love Dominic. I’ll believe I am a millimeter on my way when I can weep for sinners as he did, as our Lord did.
Not my will, but His will be done. God isn't done with me and I am literally dying to see how I end up.
Since you are in the latter category, if I take your advice, I should not to take your advice.
I am also thankful for the attention grabbing posting styles a few of them use. Instead of having to scroll to the bottom of a post to see if it is by someone on my ignore list, I can immediately recognize a post as on the ignore list because of its large multicolored fonts, triple punctuation, etc.
These people are too dumb to realize that their attention getting tactics get them less attention.
Thats exactly right! Now youre getting it! We can look to each for learning but if it doesnt line up with scripture and what the Holy Spirit is telling us then its not to be trusted. If what I say isnt what scripture is saying then dont take it as truth. Thats why we dont listen much to the guy in Rome.
Sorry, I wasn’t clear:
Taking your advice, I’m not going to pay any attention to your advice about what I should or should not do concerning scripture, doctrine, etc.
We cannot know how many people are awakened by the Truth. But we can know that they are at least provided with the Truth. It is then up to them to accept or reject it. There is a way out. And the Big Flock gangs who attempt to elbow their way around or heap ridicule or scorn on those who honestly are searching, need to be shown for exactly what they are. We do nothing but shine the light into the darkness. The way you handle that light is up to you. But others DO notice.
Well, then you should keep listening to the guy in Rome who tells you to ignore Jesus words.
Did you hear that? It sounded like someone might have been saying something...something foul.
Maybe it was just a fart.
