LDS Scouting is nothing less than co-opting the program by the mormon church to brainwash young boys into swelling the membership stats of the mormon church. It's insidious.
Respectfully, I believe LDS Scouting has value to LDS youth that's unrelated to increasing membership of the LDS Church. As an institutional sponsor, the LDS church has removed elements from traditional Scouting and added elements of its own. Its leaders may, on the average, not have the tenure of traditional Scouting leaders nor receive the training of traditional Scouting leaders. Its Scouts may have limited outdoor experiences compared to traditional Scouts due to limits on camping for eleven-year-old Scouts and the prohibition on Sunday camping.
However, core elements of Scouting - such as the Scout Oath and Law - are still present and taught.
Just like what they did with Christianity.
