Once again it appears your interpretation of my posts is flawed. The independent analysts did this separation into discrete entities. It would be a stretch to prove all these pervasive mom and pop churches in diffuse towns and village have any unifying threads. As for your inane assertion that Catholics are split into denominations let me remind if you are not connected to the magisterium you are a protestant which probably increases the 30000 plus number far past that 1998 figure.

Interesting, since the original claim of 30,000 prot denoms comes from an over simplistic reading of Barret's, World Christian trends, let me quote the SAME source for another interesting statistic.

Barret (the SAME source) tags The Roman Church's persecutions were responsible for over 5 MILLION deaths since the 33 AD.

The SAME source also lists The Roman church with over 240 denominations.

I guess that's news to the Eastern Orthodox Church that they are now considered Protestants.
