That is, like, SEW thirteenth century
_____________________________________________

No that is like 10 centuries before Christ...

That is straight out of the Bible...

There is no prayer for humility

We are to humble ourselves and pray...

Do you know that the LORD Jesus Christ whipped the money changers and drove them out of the Temple ???

It might seem extreme but it was because He was humble in the sight of God the Father...

Jesus had true humility...

Here I will side a little more with metmom, though I think it a false opposition.

One does not need to be a great physiologist or a great psychologist to be a great lover or a great spouse.

But it couldn’t hoit!

And being a chaste lover and spouse sooner or later means being a parent, in the normal course of events. And there good psychology and sometimes good physiology really helps.

But the REAL DEAL is as metmom says. It’s better to be a lover and spouse than an anatomist and psychologist.

HOWEVER, some anatomists, psychologists, poets and songsters are also lovers and spouses, while not so many lovers and spouses are anatomists, psychologists, poets and songsters.

Earnestly desire the higher gifts.

Your link on ‘how to pray the rosary’ is pretty much the standard instruction from the sites I have visited of the catholic rosary...to say this so many times and that so many times.

That you would advise not to go thru it fast does attest to the underlying possibility many do just that... and is one of the problems with canned prayers spoken in a repetitive manner..even when one might want not want it to be so. And likely another reason our Lord warned against this form of repetition.

I would suppose one might feel better for working thru the various beads and prayers...perhaps doing so makes them feel like they're accomplishing something significant for themselves....however... I am not interested in using a rosary as I am very much content to speak to the Lord one on one.

As for the rosary “Blessing” you suggest I might miss...again I prefer His direct blessing as He and I meet together and am able to trust Him that there isn't anything which He would miss.

The Holy Spirit has made it clear to me that in my walk with Christ I can trust His guidance and assurances, and time and tide have proved Him faithful to what He has promised....His abiding and constant presence for every situation I might face.

Thank you for your measured and reasonable post...But we will disagree on the rosaries importance, though I do understand why some feel a need for the use of, it just seems better to me to draw near to Christ Himself as He has asked that I do...for He does love..'the fruit of our lips.'

Jesus had true humility...

That's a 10-4.

DO you know the prayer I mentioned?

Quix will testify:I gave a talk on Veritas to my chapter last December. In the course of it I argued that the Son was always joyfully humble before the Father, and that humility was essential to his being the Truth.

True humility is happy and strong.

Excuse me if this is coarse.

If one were to describe a husband and wife, truly in love, making love as,”well there was some wrestling, and then tab A was inserted into slot B,” one would be partially right and entirely wrong.

Describing the Rosary as, “Say this prayer here and that prayer there,” is entirely wrong.

Those lovers, and there are some, who think it’s only about tabs and slots entirely miss the point. So do those who think the Rosary is about this prayer here and that prayer there. In both cases that’s what you see, but it’s not what it is.

Why ought we not to pray for humility? Shouldn’t we ask for every gift?

A personal relationship means how well one knows tthe person.

I would beg to differ. You could know down to the last detail what a person liked to eat, where they live, their favorite color, the kind of car they drive, the names of their children and pets, and in the end it could amount to nothing more than memorizing facts about them.

I have a lot of friends about whom I could not answer most of those questions about them, but they are close dear friends, because it's about THEM, not knowing details about them. Yes, you do often learn those things about them, but that comes from knowing them. I don't relate to them on a personal level by studying them but by talking to them.

Are there any OTHER religions that use a rosary like device to remember prayers?

Are you asking if other sub-sets of Christians (besides Catholics) use similar objects in prayer, or are you asking if non-Christian religions do so? Or both?

The directed meditation on our Lord's life, in the Rosary, was a genuine psychological help to me when my husband was dying. It lifted us both above what we had to endure, and reminded us of Christ's love.

It's not a trick, or a game, it's a discipline, to remember His suffering and death in the midts of our own; it helped in the past and it helps now to think of what He went through for me.

Furthermore, the fact that I have the Rosary does not mean that I do not have direct prayer, and that's one area where I feel misuncerstood: as though somehow Catholics cannot pray in the Holy Spirit, with groanings and pleadings beyond words, directly to our Savior, because we most certainly can. In all courtesy, I ask you to remember that. We are not nailed down into a box by the Rosary, we just have another way to pray, similar to the way great church music is a prayer.

For that matter, if she was assumed to she wouldn't have to endure all us unwashed, sinful masses, why is everyone so busy pestering her with their prayer petitions?

Excellent point! That will leave a mark. ;)

_________________________________________

humility is not a gift

Its a fruit of the Spirit...

Its something you can do without praying for it...

Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Colossians 3:12

Galatians lists the fruit of the Spirit as...

love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law Galatians 5:22, 23

Roger that.

Though often enough, true humility

is also quiet and contemplative.

Like Love, it’s
not vaunting itself . . .
not puffed up . . .
not strident . . .
not pushy . . .
not blaming . . .
not rationalizing . . .
not self-justifying . . .
not impatient . . .
not prickly . . .
not thin-skinned . . .
not easily given to hostility except against evil . . .
not put-upon in attitude, spirit, demeanor . . .
not calculating . . .
not manipulative . . .
not coercive . . .
not unnecessarily harsh or unkind . . .
not striving, driven . . .
not prissy . . .
not ostentacious . . .
not given to silly grandstanding . . .

. . .

. . .
Gal 5:22-23
The fruit of The Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience (long suffering)(a quiet mind), kindness (gentleness)(kind acts), goodness (well-doing), faithfulness (faith), gentleness (meekness) and self-control (temperance)(control over desires). Against such things there is no law.

The ark of the Old Covenant bore the Word of God, the Torah.

No; it contained the LAW: ten of them anyway.

It ALSO had a jar of Manna and Aaron's rod that budded!
