I found it easy because it was like Pitmans shorthand i learned in high school
and the concept was in a way the same
You learn the constanants and the dots etc for the vowels
and then you can just leave off the vowels for every day words that you recognize without the additions
if you follow my meaning..

Pitman is a good analogy and you are right, once you start to learn the roots, then you tend to ignore the vowels. One of our finals was text without vowels, we had to recognize the forms and determine meaning from context.
