Know Mormons' beliefs before voting for them
WyomingTribuneEagle ^ | July 9, 2011 | Dion Clark

In response to whether the public should vote for a Mormon for president, one should know what beliefs a candidate had.

Mitt Romney and Jon Huntsman have Mormon roots and they have been vague about their beliefs and loyalty to the LDS church.

Mormon theology includes ideas like their priesthood brethren will become the government leaders, or future kings of the world, in a globalized theocracy, and that their male leaders will take over when a second coming of Christ occurs. They believe they are the pre-ordained leaders to rule over a coming theocratic kingdom.

Worthy Mormon males are temple attending, dressing in white with special learned handshakes, altar rituals, Masonic rites and gestures and do secretive activities different from normal society.

They believe they are the future gods of new worlds in a life after this one. They follow prophets with ever-changing doctrine and change their fictional "Book of Mormon" every time it is found to be un-politically correct.

Their women are taught they are good for breeding, to have large families.

A member of this cult is loyal to its church leaders and to whatever their modern prophets tell them is gospel, which changes at their will.

They claim to be Christian, but Mormon polytheism of many gods/goddesses in a hereafter, rituals that must be performed in their temples, garment wearing and works (not grace) that saves a person is different ideology.

It is debatable whether Mormons are Christians, and they have other scriptures special to Mormonism written by their leaders, not just the New Testament, like their Doctrine and Covenants and Book of Mormon.

To learn about them and their practices, beliefs and personal character will help us determine whether they are the future leaders of Americans. Or are they really stuck in their controversial past?

“I know that you are a cradle Catholic”

How do you know this?

Thank you for posting that. Lincoln county seems to be a LDS bastion in Nevada, 70% LDS, at least % wise. Of course per wikipedia it only has a pop. of 4165 as of the 2000 census, as opposed to almost 2 million for Clark county, which is pretty amazing by itself! Reid lost Lincoln county, getting 22% of the vote. If that’s right, then it doesn’t seem like there could be a majority of LDS voting for Reid, especially if it is true that LDS have higher voter turnout than the general population.

“Notice the huge shift from past voting patterns as the Mormons abandoned Angle to vote for Reid.”

I must have looked from this to your chart about 10 times before I realized it had to be a joke!

“I’m sure we have exit polling but it’s not worth a phone call to Nevada to find out, just look at the general.”

I know I would still like to see it if it exists. I think it is bizarre, considering all the theories that were being put forth in the run up to the election, if someone didn’t ask the question.

Maybe you will feel more at home on a forum that isn't dedicated to religious debate. I'm sure you can start a thread on chat about something that interests you and doesn't dent your thin skin.

Open threads on the RF are known for their unrestrained rhetoric.

FROM THE RELIGION FORUM MODERATOR:

Open threads are a town square. Antagonism though not encouraged, should be expected

Posters may argue for or against beliefs of any kind. They may tear down other’s beliefs. They may ridicule.

On all threads, but particularly “open” threads, posters must never “make it personal.” Reading minds and attributing motives are forms of “making it personal.” Making a thread “about” another Freeper is “making it personal.”

When in doubt, review your use of the pronoun “you” before hitting “enter.”

Like the Smoky Backroom, the conversation may be offensive to some.

Thin-skinned posters will be booted from “open” threads because in the town square, they are the disrupters.

Thin-skinned (emotional, whiney or mercurial temper) posters are the disruptors on open threads.

Sorry, such self-justification of one’s own incivility doesn’t cut it with me. Good day, Sir.

What difference does it make how I know, the fact is that I know it, why would a Catholic be fighting for Mormonism and ignoring post 170?

It almost seems that you are denying being a Catholic, are you?

You made an assertion about me and my faith. I asked you for its basis. You had no meaningful response.

Nice try on the deflection...but amateurish. Post 170 has nothing to do with your assertion, nor does a very childish “it seems that you are denying being a Catholic.”

So again, how do you know I am a cradle Catholic? Or are you in the habit of making things up and posting them as an [alleged] fact?

Yep, that’s why I pointed out that it is not must - shall I say - misguided Catholics defending mormonism, but misguided Protestants too.

The ‘thick skin’ rule needs to be applied here BM.

You sure as heck won’t deny it because you can’t, I don’t know why it bothers you anyway, did you not want to be known as a Catholic while fighting for Mormonism?

Being Catholic is sure not anything that you should be ashamed of.

I know that you will not deny it, so why act shocked and as though you are not? Why all the play acting on this thread, from you?

Amen, brother. Amen. You are categorically and completely correct. We are gradually losing our liberals and Vatican II types and replacing them with orthodox and serious Catholics. We are reclaiming the Faith, unlike such as the Episcopagans and Pagatyrians.

Trying to get the thread pulled by making it "personal" about him.

We get the most passionate, dedicated, almost cult like Mormon defenders from Catholics though, remember GOP_Lady?

We see the Catholics often defend Mormonism, while making a very theatrical display of their being Catholic, it is an odd thing.

“He’s a good man and has some good ideas. “

Oh, really?

In what way is he a good man?
His support for government mandates?
His support for homosexual man dates?
Abortions?
Abortions funded by taxpayers?
His socialism?

Which ideas are the good ones?

LOL, I know you are a “cradle catholic”, your weird reaction to us knowing that on this Mormon thread is bizarre.

Wrack your brain, how would a freeper know that you are a Catholic, what could it possibly be? Next month how would a freeper learn that you label Christians fighting anti-Christian cults, as “skinheads”, how will they know that?

I don't recall ever seeing a republican reaching his level, that was a totally sociopathic liar like Mitt Romney is.

BM, you seem to be forgetting other RF rules.

Thin skin posters and trolls are the disruptors and are usually asked to leave the thread.

IMO, you are being rather thin skinned. You took a post that wasn’t directed at you in the least and made this about you. Why don’t you run along now?
