Don't you believe Jesus' own words?

Matthew 18:19 Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.

I though all good Catholics held the very words of Jesus in higher esteem than any of the rest of Scripture?

That's up to you if you want to be unified with Christ or not. For we are 'in Christ'.
