Beck's Bogus Beliefs

March 2011

by T. A. McMahon

"Glenn Beck, the television and radio talk show host who is best known for his conservative political views, isn't someone whom we would normally address in our newsletter. Our concerns are usually directed at individuals, programs, or organizations that promote spiritual or theological views contrary to the Word of God. Beck, of late, seems to be making himself at home in that realm, and he's attracting many who call themselves Bible-believing Christians. ...

First of all, Glenn Beck is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He may refer to himself as a Christian, but he's certainly not a biblical Christian. The distinction is as wide as hell is from heaven: "Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God" (2 John:9). Mormon doctrine is "another gospel" that exalts "another Jesus." Both false beliefs came out of the deceived and deceiving mind of Joseph Smith. Secondly, "our country" doesn't have "Christian roots," even though some are claiming that our founding fathers were true Christians. Many were not biblical Christians but Christians in name only, who followed the faith of Deism, Masonry, and the philosophy of the Enlightenment. Any early influence in America's history of a biblical nature very likely came from the Pilgrims and the Puritans...."

THE ARTICLES OF FAITH OF
THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS
History of the Church, Vol. 4, pp. 535—541

1 We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.

2 We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam’s transgression.

3 We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.

4 We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.

5 We believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof.

6 We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.

7 We believe in the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, visions, healing, interpretation of tongues, and so forth.

8 We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.

9 We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.

10 We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory.

11 We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.

12 We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.

13 We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul—We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.

Joseph Smith

He believes that Jesus Christ was the son of God, that he is the Saviour of man put on this earth to pay for our sins.
________________________________________

Well Beck believes that Satan was the son of the mormon god...

But that doesnt make him a Christian

And Beck believes that the mormon jesus had a premortal state as a spirit and then came to Earth as a man and then was good enough to become a god...

And Beck beliueves that Jpoey Smith doed for man and that his blood saves mormons...

But that doesnt make him a Christian

And Beck believes that it is Joey Smith and not the LORD Jesus Christ who will judge mankind

but that doesnt make him a Christian

And Beck believes that Joey Smith will decide who gets passed him into the mormon afterlife

But that doesnt make him a Christian

And Beck believes that he is a priest after the order of Melchezadek

But that doesnt make him a Chriustian

And Beck believes that there will be wholesale sex orgies in the form of harems with him as shiekh of his own planet of 72 virgins

But that doesnt make him a Christian

And Beck be;lieves that Jo0ey Smith was a prophet of the mormon god

But that doesnt make him a Christian

And Beck believes that the book of mormon is twoo

But that doesnt make him a Christian

And Beck believes that the Christian Bible is untwoo

But that doesnt make him a Christian

And Beck believes that the LORD Jesus Chrsit lied asnd lost dropped misplaced had stolen His Chuirch, His Bride

But that doesnt make him a Christian

And Beck believes that Joey Smith finally after 2,000 years of no church, was the only man who could rescue the church and help the wimpy mormon jesus and restored whatever to whatever religion or to whatever version you want to believe

Other than Christian

But that doesnt make him a Christian

Beck believes that everything Joey Smith did or said was of the mormon god and Joey Smith was the most perfect man etc

Yeah that same joey Smith who said there were 1,000 year old men living on the moon, committing wholesale adultry will get you into “heaven” and that the mormon jesus would be back in 1890ish and this world would end

Yeah that Joey Smith

But that doesnt still make Beck a Christian

Joey Smith was excommunicated from the Methodist Church for preaching blasphemy and he hated Christianity...

And Beck ???

Well that still doesnt make him a Christian

This Nation was founded on inviting the Spirit of the Lord whom help forge this constitution.

But the mormons claim this was impossible...

There was no “spirit of any lord” in 1789

Joey Smith had not been born yet...

Is this belief the reason why you still dont have a temple recommend ???

Resty lie, lie, lie for da mormon lord during your next interview...

thats how it is done...

“Isnt the whole point of jude not lest ye be judged yourself that you should not judge someone’s faith, unless you are ready for your own faith to be questioned?”

First of all, Christ was addressing the unsaved in that speech, not Christians, so in that context, your interpretation fails. How could His warning concern faith when His warning was directed to those without faith?

Now, compare this warning to what Jesus says in the story of the adulterous woman: “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone”, whereas here he says “For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged”. The two thoughts are parallel and logically congruous, so I think it’s a fair assumption that Christ is talking about the same thing, namely the hypocrisy of sinners judging other sinners.

Even if you don’t agree with that logic, it’s simply not possible for that to be a command not to judge other faiths. Instead of being forbidden to judge, Christians are appointed to judgment in the New Testament, and in fact are prophetically praised for exercising specifically spiritual judgment over those claiming to be Christian themselves (in the letter to the Church of Ephesus in Rev. 2:2):

“2I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:”

Now, this exercising of spiritual judgmnent is listed amongst the good attributes that God recognizes in this church. He is complimenting them for judging, not rebuking them!

“Actually, he is running the same scam the false Christian prophets have for years; that theirs is the only was to see things, and to see things their way, you have to buy a DVD that costs them 43 cents to make.... but they sell to you for $19.00!”

Wow, I bet the Gideons are really making a killing :P

“True, but compared to the things I’ve listed, the rest is minutia.”

Hardly. Haven’t you ever heard the phrase “the devil is in the details”? I think it can be quite literally applied here.

If someone says “I believe in Jesus, and that He was the Son of God”, that’s great... but if he also believes that Jesus is a magic gnome that became the Son of God by eating pixie dust and sacrificing a unicorn under the full moon, you might rethink including that person in the category of “Christian”, know what I mean?

That scripture is in the Christian Bible so it has never stopped Joey Smith, Briggie Young, John Taylor, Hebver Kimball, Daniel Peterson or the 50,000 door-to-door mormon product salesman or most of the mordern day mormons for baring false witness against Christians as a basis for their false religion...

I think the basic Mormon-Gnostic correlation is in the concept of duality. For the Gnostics, it usually took the form that Jesus and Lucifer are equally powerful opposing forces in the Earth. Some Gnostics took this further and reasoned, since Satan was as powerful as Jesus (some even thought more powerful), they should both be worshipped equally. Usually they viewed the good and evil as two opposing parts of a whole, so that Jesus/Satan together are a duality that opposes itself, creating a conflict that is somehow necessary for the world.

The connection with Mormonism is only in the belief in multiple gods, but specifically in the Mormon view of Jesus and Lucifer as brothers, or two sides of this duality.

“I have made up some cards with the free Be Still exercise phone number and hand those out and I promote Roy whenever possible. Roy is the spearhead of really awakening Americans...those that want to stop making excuses and really want to awaken!”

I know you’re claiming this guy isn’t a cult leader, but just from reading this post I’ve been pretty well convinced that he really is one.

Go to Independence, Missouri. You will find several RLDS / LDS chuches that put “Zion” in their name (on the church sign). Some call themselves “restoration branch”. It is because they believe Independence, Missouri is Zion.

They also say, "And the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory." But we know from Scripture that it is AFTER the millenial rule that God creates a new Heaven and new Earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. Do they get anything right?
