ARAD, Israel - For the past seven years, the small Messianic Jewish community in the southern Israeli town of Arad has been harassed and persecuted by ultra-Orthodox Jews who accuse them of missionary activity.
The small desert town, with a population of 25,000 mostly secular residents, is home to a growing number of Israeli believers.
Yakim Figueras, pastor of one of the four congregations there, told CBN News that for years, religious Jews have subjected the believing community to sometimes daily cursing and harassment outside their homes.
"They come with either half-truths against us or complete lies and they entice their own people and try to bring others against us," Figueras said.
On Wednesday, a demonstration organized by Yad L'achim, the aggressive anti-missionary organization, brought about 200 protesters to the home of Polly Sigulim. Their message was clear.

We're not talking about ancient history. I said give me current examples and you couldn't do it. There goes your "forced" conversion nonsense.
“Where do they perform their animal sacrifices? “
Why are you under the impression Orthodox Rabbis are supposed to sacrifice animals? These rituals appear in the Torah as individually mandated tasks and later, occasionally for the High Priests.
Today, some Ultra Orthodox *do* actually partake in some animal rituals (like transferring sins to a chicken they raise over their head) but it’s symbolic the way lent is symbolic. Nobody would chastise Christians for not fasting in the desert for 40 days, would they? Talmudic sages came to conclusions as to refining the laws of observance. This is part of the oral tradition, and not the Torah itself. Mainstream modern Judaic practice doesn’t require one to live like an ancient Israelite.
“We’re not talking about ancient history. I said give me current examples and you couldn’t do it. There goes your “forced” conversion nonsense.”
There are still communities of Crypto Jews, and Jews of other forced conversions across the world coming to terms with their lineage and going through a rediscovery process today. Many continued to practice Judaism in hiding.
Ad Targeting Jews For Conversion ‘Offensive And Insulting
ADL response:
“The World Evangelical Alliance Statement defending the targeting of Jews for conversion is offensive and insulting to the Jewish people and brazenly dismisses Jewish self-definition. Instead of validating God’s irrevocable covenant with the Jewish people, and ongoing Jewish covenantal life, themes also found in their Scripture, this group of religious leaders does the opposite. It is especially odious to defend the duplicitous proselytizing of Jews by groups such as Jews for Jesus and so-called “Messianic Jews.” While they claim to deplore the use of deception and coercion, they “reject the notion that it is deceptive for followers of Jesus Christ who were born Jewish to continue to identify as Jews,” thus turning the meaning of deception on its head.”

A correction from earlier - Israel only outlaws missionary work to minors, or when inducement is offered. They were forced to pull planned legislation in 1998 banning all missionary work.
So? I put up with things I find offensive and insulting every day. Everybody has to deal with that. Sometimes I even discover they were right and I should have listened.
animal sacrifices were moved to the temple and away from the “burbs” in ancient times. Also, rabbis didn’t do sacrifices anyway.
Anyone espouses “one true religion” isn’t too far removed from “force”.
How so? Is the implication one inevitibly leads to the other? If so, please prove it. If not then the statement is petty sophistry meaning nothing.
I didn’t say “leads to another” I also didn’t say they were the same thing. I said not far removed. I will say that your approach is rude and unintellectual. I don’t think Hindu gods are real, but I would not post that to a Hindu on an internet forum. It is obnoxious and would make Jews look bad. It is so sad when someone thinks that the only path to God is the one they themselves happen to be on. I have respect for Christianity as a legitimate path to God for Christians. Too bad you can’t do the same for others.
John 14:2 - In my Father’s house are many rooms; ...........
And now that the temple is gone (God's will) there's no reason in scripture you can't take those sacrifices out to the burbs again. In fact it seems to be commanded. You've got detailed instructions how to build a tabernacle. I wonder why God took such pains to preserve such a detailed set of instructions?
Jesus warned me you would say and feel just that way...and to do it anyway.
No, its not.
Its mostly Non-Jews who believe it appears in code.
Mazol Tov ! Have a wonderful journey on life's wide road.
shalom b'SHEM Yah'shua HaMashiach
ואהבת לרעך כמוך אני יהוה
You seem to be totally ignorant of the Torah.
“In fact it seems to be commanded. You’ve got detailed instructions how to build a tabernacle”
You don’t know what you’re talking about.
Anyway are you going to sit in the desert and starve yourself for Lent this year?
Oh really, well he said different things to lots of other people who behave in considerably more Christ-like ways than your behavior here would indicate.
“So? I put up with things I find offensive and insulting every day. Everybody has to deal with that.”
Unwilling submission to another’s religious doctrine is only merely offensive or insulting?
I'm talking about the books of Exodus and Leviticus. Read them and you find the building instructions and commands I speak of.
No one is forcing anyone to submit to anything.
What behavior of mine has been un Christ-like?
Have you read them in Hebrew sweetheart? The only way you can truly understand the word of God is to read it in the original.
Trying to teach someone to understand the Bible and Judaism in one afternoon on an online forum is a tad to grand a proposition. It hasn’t stopped you from trying to pretend though.
Watching your train of thought is nearly at the level of a sporting event. I must say that I am relieved that the vast majority of Christians are not as intolerant and so sure of their own set of truths as you are. Osama bin Laden and his boys are very sure they have the corner on the truth too.
Uriel-2012 - You can’t read Hebrew and you’re not Jewish, I guess?
Oh, but you know better than the Jews how they should practice their own religion, is that it?
Print out your posts and show them to your pastor and he will tell you how your behavior is not Christ-like.
Maybe he would even tell you:
John 14:2 - In my Father’s house are many rooms.....
