I can provide a dozen or more quotes from Shakespeare, Chaucer, Hemingway, Asimov, Heinlein, and Ellison and say “your answer is there somewhere.”
Smith, in #3, is very specific. You have 2 options: you agree or you do not. There is no 3rd option. If the refutation is in the quotes, then state how the quote refutes the original quote in #3. I will even allow that there may be clarification.
But be specific and on point. Or admit you just can’t refute it.
