An alarming trend is developing in the Free Republic Religion Forum in which a caucus identifier is being claimed for non-existent or impossibly defined groups. With the caucuses being self defined we see nonsense like the Sola Scriptura Caucus. Of course it doesnt mean all Scripture, only the thread initiators or Forum Moderators definition of Scripture. Jews who believe in the Scripture of the Old Testament are excluded. Mormons, Seventh Day Adventists, and Jehovahs Witnesses are excluded even though they believe in the sufficiency of their own versions of Scripture. The not so transparent purpose of these faux caucuses is clearly to exclude a group of FReepers in a modern day repetition of Whites Only and Irish Need Not Apply prejudice. If this is allowed to stand what will we see next; caucuses so narrowly defined so as to only include ones bridge club or to exclude an individual FReeper? How about a caucus designation for everyone but citizens from New York? How about a mens only caucus? How about a caucus for those of us who drive BMWs? And what is being discussed in these faux caucus threads? Critical doctrinal issues such as ruggedized aircraft, home schooling, and civil unrest in Egypt. Give me a break!
Good to know.
Those who refrain from self-identifying as "Roman Catholics" tend to be from the more liberal branch of that church.
Nice to see that your interpretation of posts is approximately as equal as your interpretation of Scripture. Notice the phrase: "Emphasizing the connection with the particular church rather than the Roman Church"?
Standing ovation. You've done it again.
Another fake and charlatan. Didn't he claim to comfort Jesus?
Most fairy stories are for-profit ventures.
Izzat so? You are the one spouting off about tours of heaven and hell. Any thoughts (!) on Dante's little sojourn?
Natural Law:
As long as the various Protestant groups represented here or other groups designate a thread as “Caucus” to discuss their own Theological positions and propose them for discussion and that thread does not get into a “compare and contrast”, then by all means I could care less as there is really nothing in most of those various traditions that interest me, and I would conjecture, most Catholics here.
There are few Traditional Anglicans and maybe some Lutherans who have some interesting things as those 2 groups have retained the Creeds and Liturgy and thus there is a better connection for charitable discussion between Catholics and Protestants from those Two traditions.
The only “Sola Scriptura” caucus thread that I saw that I questioned was the one regarding Egypt and its Christian population or lack thereof, etc. While the article mentioned that Egypt has a 10% Christian population, the article implied that what those Christians needed was American Protestantism, which in my view, was an implicit attack on the Coptic Orthodox Christians, who are probably 99% of the Christians in Egypt and have a history dating back to St. Mark in the 1st century.
Had the article in question stated there is chance to evangelize the 90% of Egypt’s population that is non-Christian, then I have no problem again, but it did mention the 10% of Egytians who belong to the Coptic Orthodox Church and thus the Eastern Orthodox should have been allowed to respond in that thread.
Still, if some group wants to form a caucus thread for discussing their own theology and tradition, go for it as from my perspective it actually helps because the threads labled Calvinist, Baptist, Joel Osteen, Pentecostal, Rapture/Dispensationalist caucus threads do not interest me at all. Period! and thus I save time.

I firmly believe such a perspective/attitude is Biblically and experientially wrong.

For those obsessed with contending over such with what come across to me as ignorant jerk-water opinions—knock yourself out. I may not reply.
For those who are willing to seek The Lord about what HE WOULD SAY TO YOU about such—Wonderful. May He speak clearly to you.
You can stop yelling at me please. I already told you politely how I believe.
I don’t think it’s a “hill to die on” issue.
I’m not arguing with you or mocking you about it, I just firmly don’t believe in it.
Continue the discussion if you wish, but without me - we’ll catch up aain later bro :-)
Wasn’t yelling.
As you wish.
Later.
>> I give you Ephesians (the Church is built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets),<<
Ephesians 2:20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;
Nothing about Peter being the rock nor the pope there. Jesus is the cornerstone.
1 Cor. 3:11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
Hmm. Seems Paul would disagree about your concept of the foundation.
Check this site: http://www.angelfire.com/in/HisName/foundationtwo.html
Misconception #1Apostles, along with Prophets, Are the Foundation of the Church.
This is probably the most serious misconception and is based on a faulty reading of Eph. 2:20 where Paul tells the Ephesian believers that they are being built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets . . .. In the Greek, apostles and prophets is in the genitive case, the case which shows possession. It is like saying the car of John Doe. Although the car and John Doe are related, it does not follow that the car is John Doe or that John Doe is the car.
In the same way, it does not follow that the foundation is identical with the apostles and prophets or that the apostles and prophets are identical with the foundation. Paul is actually referring to the foundation which is laid by the apostles and prophets as is borne out in his 1st letter to the Corinthian Church; a church he, as an apostle, had founded.
In 1 Cor. 3:10-11, Paul refers to his founding of the church at Corinth and says, I have laid the foundation and another builds on it. What foundation did Paul lay for the church in Corinth? He says in vs. 11, For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid which is Jesus Christ. The foundation of the apostle Paul in Corinth was Jesus Christ.
>> The keys are the final clue.<<
An in Matthew 18 Jesus gave the keys and power to all the apostles.
“As far as “annoying pictures” go, I’ve seen Roman Catholics get extremely “annoyed” at the following photo. Does that mean we shouldn’t post it? “
Misguided Muslims are deserving of prayer and blessings, just like Proddy heretics who are misled by Calvin.
Yo, quixie, where's the video of his trip? Musta had a cell phone cam with him, no?
Jesse DuPlantation is a fraud. There's a sucker born every day. Then there are born again suckers who eat up this junk. Did you send him money or something?
All of those questions are the result of poor reading comprehension. They misrepresent The One Universal Church.
Jesse DuPlantation is a fraud.
You think?
Unless he repents, that will be his only "glimpse of heaven". I could only watch a few minutes of it before I was embarrassed for him and the legions of myrmidons filling the auditorium. How can anyone lie like that and appear so sincere. It can only be from true delusions or lots of practice.
LOL
Visions of Elmer Gantry. I try to watch these yahoos every so often just to keep abreast of who’s fleecing the flock. It is absolutely painful. It’s like listening to Vogon poetry. I’m convinced that no one indwelt by the Holy Spirit would have anything to do with these people.
Dawg,
I’m not following you on how you think that those who argue against idolatry are claiming more than one god. Can you spell that out for me a little more?
And I agree we all have some idolatry in our heart but it comes down to basic presuppositions. Of course as a biblical Christian I believe we need to hold to the basic presuppositions of Scripture. The basic presuppositions of Scripture are Creation, Fall, Redemption and future glorification. Jesus is the center of the story. If the gaze remains upon Jesus and his impact on these presuppositions whatever other idolatry is left in our heart is not imputed to us because we trust in the righteousness of Jesus.
As to the Muslims, they fail to acknowledge Jesus as their righteousness.
Do you know where I could find that homeschooling thread that was ‘sola scriptura’ caucused? I’ve tried keywords ‘homeschool’, ‘homeschooling’, ‘sola scriptura’, etc, without luck.
"Misguided muslims" may be in need of our prayers, but what blessings would you confer on them while they remain "misguided?"
Thankfully, I've seen Roman Catholics on this forum denounce JPII's satanic smooch of the Koran, a book that demands death for Christians and Jews.
It's a profound sadness that those people are in the very smallest of minorities on FR. Most RCs defend JPII's blasphemy, just like they defend the rest of Rome's liberal agenda.
