An alarming trend is developing in the Free Republic Religion Forum in which a caucus identifier is being claimed for non-existent or impossibly defined groups. With the caucuses being self defined we see nonsense like the Sola Scriptura Caucus. Of course it doesn’t mean all Scripture, only the thread initiators or Forum Moderators definition of Scripture. Jews who believe in the Scripture of the Old Testament are excluded. Mormons, Seventh Day Adventists, and Jehovah’s Witnesses are excluded even though they believe in the sufficiency of their own versions of Scripture. The not so transparent purpose of these faux caucuses is clearly to exclude a group of FReepers in a modern day repetition of “Whites Only” and “Irish Need Not Apply” prejudice. If this is allowed to stand what will we see next; caucuses so narrowly defined so as to only include one’s bridge club or to exclude an individual FReeper? How about a caucus designation for everyone but citizens from New York? How about a men’s only caucus? How about a caucus for those of us who drive BMWs? And what is being discussed in these faux caucus threads? Critical doctrinal issues such as ruggedized aircraft, home schooling, and civil unrest in Egypt. Give me a break!

To the best of my recollection.
'Roman' was pushed by the British during their break with the Church for obvious reasons. 'Romanist', 'Papist, et al' followed up on that. From an historical standpoint, the existence and history of the Eastern Rites (as well as the Orthodox and others in the East), tends to throw a monkey wrench into some of the, ah, analysis of alleged doctrinal "inventions" that shows up in "Western" Christian religious arguments amonst Catholics vs Protestants such as in internet forums and elsewhere in society.
Yes, in official Church documents and language, 'The Roman Church' refers specifically to the Church in Rome, with St. John Lateran as the Cathedral.
Certainly, by this time, the term 'Roman Catholic', while technically incorrect, is oftentimes used to refer to the Latin Rite of the Church - if not the whole Catholic Church - by many, including Catholics at times.
'Mormon' started as a nick for 'Latter Day Saints', but most of them refer to themselves as Mormons now. I know a couple who get offended by it though. LDS it is for them.
I don't think this forum requires a font and photo police force.
Everyone has their idiosyncrasies. We're all free to ignore anything we choose.
As far as "annoying pictures" go, I've seen Roman Catholics get extremely "annoyed" at the following photo. Does that mean we shouldn't post it?

I told you. I’ve brought this up over and over amongst the group. We are here until what we believe is targeted. Until we become too much of a thorn in the side of those who are more equal than others, and we will be driven away too. It’s happened before, we may well be next.

are NOT owned by the RCC . . . and that it is heretical for us to kowtow to y’all’s efforts to
DEFINE REALITY AND OWN THE WORD
when Christ’s body is far broader than the RCC.
. . . .that therefore, for us . . . Roman Catholic is the only acceptable term . . . partly because Roman et al Catholic is too cumbursome.

I love our Christians in all their sects because I love Jesus. I have not been able to pick one over the other, myself. :)
I hope everyone stays with Free Republic and treats one another’s hearts with love and understanding when studying religions with one another here.
There is a lot of earned resentment on all sides and I pray that Jesus will take it away as we offer it up to Him.
I don’t often contribute to Christian discussion threads because my Christian education is not formal. But I read the theads sometimes and I learn from them so I hope we can all start over in seeking forgiveness of our sin and offering forgiveness for the offenses of others.
