Pope includes Hindu verses in prayers on Good Friday

HINDUS HAVE applauded Pope Benedict for including verse from ancient Hindu scripture Upanishads in the Good Friday Meditations and Prayers led by him at Roman Colosseum.

Acclaimed Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that it was a remarkable gesture from Pope and invited him to study more ancient Hindu scriptures, which were very rich in philosophical thought. He or other Hindu scholars would gladly provide the help and resources in this regard, if asked, Zed added.

Zed, who is president of Universal Society of Hinduism, also commended His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI for inclusion of a verse from India’s Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore’s Gitanjali and reference to peace icon Mahatma Gandhi in these prayers.

This year’s 'Way of the Cross at the Colesseum' Meditations and Prayers on Good Friday, led by Pope, included well-known verse from Brahadaranyakopanishad (“Lead me from the unreal to the real, from darkness to light, from death to immortality”), line from Tagore’s Gitanjali (“Give me the strength to make my love fruitful in service”) and reference to Mahatma Gandhi.

Rajan Zed stressed that all religions should work together for a just and peaceful world. Dialogue would bring us mutual enrichment, he added.

Pope Benedict heads the Roman Catholic Church, which is the largest of the Christian denominations. Hinduism, oldest and third largest religion of the world, has about one billion adherents and moksha (liberation) is its ultimate goal.

God is totally sovereign.

AND

Knowing the end from the beginning . . .

HE has told us a rough outline of what to expect in this era.

Ignorance and willful blindness ignore his warnings and exhortations to prepare, watch, be ready.

I am not God. I am not your spiritual judge.

To some on this Religion Forum the statement "Catholics worship Mary" is absolute truth. To others on the same forum that statement is a damnable lie.

Positions are usually hardened. The "open" Religion Forum threads exist so that you can air your differences and persuade lurkers.

And neither side is allowed to attribute motive to the other - the presumption must be that posters mean what they say. Otherwise every "open" Religion Forum thread would spiral into a flame war of ad hominems.

I am going to see how the roaring donkeys of bigotry logic works.

According to them the fact that the pope stated (did we ever establish it was indeed the Pope and not another person present) stated what Hindus once prayed mean that the Pope was now worshipping Hindu gods.

So by that logic any person of faith who states what another faith believes when such statement is in the context of any religious devotional, meeting, lecture, or church service that person is thereby endorsing that belief and is now a member of that non Christian sect.

So if a preacher as part of a sermon says “The Buddhists pray “May all hindrances caused by sin be removed.”(actual Buddhist prayer) but we know that Christ died on the Cross for our sins and it is He alone who forgives us and removes our sins.” By their logic the preacher has now endorsed Buddhism and is a Buddhist.

Oh I like how that works.

Also by their logic I can claim anything I want about another faiths worship and practice no matter how many times evidence is offered to the contrary. I know because they are Sola Scrptura they elevate the Bible above the level of God and worship the book instead of Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Yep that works too.

Martin Luther (it might have been one of Luther’s cohorts) told a prince that he could find no Biblical reason for an absolute ban on a man having two wives so the prince was free to take a second wife. We know that for years official LDS teaching demanded plural marriage so if Luther reluctantly said it could be permitted and if LDS encouraged the practice then Luther was actually LDS and did not know it. Oh that is even better.

Fun times ahead.

It's fascinating, Proddys . . . the RC's and Orthodox can spend years in the batting cage practicing relentlessly.

Yet the minute a Proddy just turns down the street where the ball park is located, the wails to the authorities by the authoritarian

DIVINE RIGHTERS TO WAIL cliques begin.

And even more astounding, they THEN seem to have the cluelessness to pretend that the watching world doesn't notice such duplicities!

It's as though the Pope were screaming at a Proddy walking by in a ball cap and Walmart windbreaker--the Pope accusing the Proddy of wearing a funny hat and a gilded robe!

Where do they get such hubris? Hell?

And I note that you have said that any picture or statement sent to a poster saying things about the poster's group is a kind of personal abuse -- hence that means any of the numerous times there is a lying post or picture sent to a Catholic, that is to be taken as a personal insult and hence removed -- is that correct?

Exactly the opposite.

When the post is directed to another Freeper personally, it is "making it personal."

When the post is directed to a group, religion, religious authority, etc. it is not "making it personal."

That said, do not post Satanic images.

See that is why I have a problem. When a statement can be proven to be false and evidence that it is false is given over and over again what then does it mean when people persist in posting the lie?

To me it means very simply they are willfull liars. I would even accept if they were to write “To all appearances Catholic devotion to Mary is worship, because you are honoring her and we don’t believe there is a distinction between worship, adoration and/or honoring and all of these should be reserved for God alone.” That would be a fair and just statement. Or “I believe you don’t think you are worshiping Mary but the fact you petition her is to me an act of worship.”

Those type of statements are certainly motiveless. Not so much the statement “Catholics worship Mary”.

Which by the way is a rather mild accusation and understandable from sects that don’t have distinctions in worship, veneration, honor and the like. But others are not so much. Like the oft claim from 1 poster that the Pope is a Nazi. That can only be from malevolence and bigotry. So why can we not be plain that such statements are beyond the pale?

PS. Well you never know, since being Catholic I apparantly worship a lot of false gods. Would you like to be one? Let me know you want me to eat chocolate bars in your honor and you are in.

I know because they are Sola Scrptura they elevate the Bible above the level of God and worship the book instead of Father, Son and Holy Ghost.

As opposed to elevating a group of men, a magisterium, a hierarchy of self-imposed rulers over BOTH the Scriptures and worship, AND Father, Son, AND Holy Ghost????

Btw: NO protestant elevates the Bible above God and worship. May want to research that one a bit more. What we DO is make the Bible the SOLE AUTHORITY in order to evaluate that what is being taught BY MEN is ACCURATE!

I know they don’t. I was using the logic of the roaring donkeys of bigotry. But personally I do not think, wait I know, that Protestants who practice Sola Scriptura do not place the Bible above God.

Just giving you a dose of your own medicine.
