That was easy to figure out.

If it sounds too scholarly for your average FReeper, it probably is.

Going on 500 posts into the thread and not one Catholic has addressed the topic of the thread yet.

Nor has shown what are the lies and slander they’ve accused the article of promoting to be.

I've seen the 7 churches expressed as different eras before. It's an interesting thought. I'm more inclined to believe they exist concurrently.

I believe they were actual churches.. not eras.. and the sin being addressed in them was real and present at the time of the writing..God speaks directly to them.. and to us through them..because the same sins afflict the churches today ... Gods word is always relevant and true..

I don’t mean to stick my nose in here but when the jailor asked “what must I do to be saved”, the answer was “believe on the Lord Jesus and you will be saved-and your house”.
The thought process on baptizing children stems from that and other verses which indicate a “covering” by the professing parent. The children are baptized into the faith that the parents have. The personal confession of the individual after the age of accountability along with the personal relationship with Jesus is a different matter.

This is a non essential .... I have studied both and come to the conclusion that it just doesn't matter..

My hope is built on nothing less Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly trust in Jesus’ Name.

On Christ the solid rock we stand

ROTFLMAO - so sue me. I have often attributed that quote to Luther. That I didn’t here is not “Plagiarism” - and where is your - ahem - Christian Charity? Rather it was done on purpose - it was already attributed on this thread, I simply repeated it.

As I noted earlier here that is the work of Martin Luther. Why? Does it offend you somehow?

My soul magnifies the Lord,
And my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.
For He has regarded the low estate of His handmaiden,
For behold, henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
For He who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is His name. And His mercy is on those who fear Him from generation to generation.
He has shown strength with His arm:
He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
He has put down the mighty from their thrones,
and exalted those of low degree.
He has filled the hungry with good things;
and the rich He has sent empty away.
He has helped His servant Israel, in remembrance of His mercy;
As He spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to His posterity forever.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen

Magníficat ánima mea Dóminum,
et exsultávit spíritus meus
in Deo salvatóre meo,
quia respéxit humilitátem
ancíllæ suæ.

Ecce enim ex hoc beátam
me dicent omnes generatiónes,
quia fecit mihi magna,
qui potens est,
et sanctum nomen eius,
et misericórdia eius in progénies
et progénies timéntibus eum.
Fecit poténtiam in bráchio suo,
dispérsit supérbos mente cordis sui;
depósuit poténtes de sede
et exaltávit húmiles.
Esuriéntes implévit bonis
et dívites dimísit inánes.
Suscépit Ísrael púerum suum,
recordátus misericórdiæ,
sicut locútus est ad patres nostros,
Ábraham et sémini eius in sæcula.

Glória Patri et Fílio
et Spirítui Sancto.
Sicut erat in princípio,
et nunc et semper,
et in sæcula sæculórum.

Amen.

She became the Mother of God, in which work so many and such great good things are bestowed on her as pass man’s understanding. For on this there follows all honor, all blessedness, and her unique place in the whole of mankind, among which she has no equal, namely, that she had a child by the Father in heaven, and such a Child . . . Hence men have crowded all her glory into a single word, calling her the Mother of God . . . None can say of her nor announce to her greater things, even though he had as many tongues as the earth possesses flowers and blades of grass: the sky, stars; and the sea, grains of sand. It needs to be pondered in the heart what it means to be the Mother of God.

(Commentary on the Magnificat, 1521; in Luther’s Works, Pelikan et al, vol. 21, 326)

2 Thessalonians 2:15 - “So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the traditions that you were taught by US, either by OUR spoken word or by OUR letter.”

This Scripture passage does not make the case for tradition through the Catholic church, it does the opposite. Paul is warning the Thessalonians to stand firm and hold to only those traditions that they were directly taught by the Apostles or heard from the Apostles own mouths or those that are written in Holy Scripture.

You don't have to name all of them, just a few would be informative.

Don't be surprised if a demand that you provide them arises out of nowhere, along with some annoyance about time if you insist that your request be honored.

The history of the Bible isn’t hard to find if you want to. Nor how the Bible was compiled. Nor who compiled it. Nor which translation and version of the Bible we are talking about. The early Church fathers and the Synods and Councils determined what did or did not belong, and fragments of the New Testament go back to the Second Century. Yet those on this forum who demand the Holy Spirit is working through them in their posting of lies here, deny the Holy Spirit any connection to the Catholic Church, the Church Fathers, and the Bible they compiled. Nor frankly, Catholics for two thousand years. Just as this schmuck is doing in the paragraph above. That’s quite a disconnect! The Bible is inspired by God and is the word of God, but the people who put it together didn’t have anything to do with it, or have any connection with the Holy Spirit when they did. How far do you have to torture reality to support your hatred and lies

The New Testament was recognized before any church council ..it was read and circulated by the apostles and disciples.. "And when this letter has been read among you, see that it be read in the church of the Laodiceans also; and that you yourselves read the letter from Laodicea." (Col. 4:16).

The claim of the RC that it birthed the NT can not accurate because the NT existed before the RC

As I pointed out earlier..if they wrote the NT they should have done a better job of putting their doctrine in it , because there is no Pope, no priesthood, no assumption, no mass, no confessionals, no prayer to saints or prayers for the dead or purgatory.. etc etc

OK. Be more specific. Who agreed on what canons? Who decided what books were included and which weren’t? Who decided what was heresy and what wasn’t? Is the Protestant Bible different from the Orthodox? What did Saint Jerome have to do with anything?

Come on. Be more specific!

“Bishop J.C. Ryle described the situation: “The immense majority of the clergy did little more than say masses and offer up pretended sacrifices, repeat Latin prayers and chant Latin hymns (which of course most of the people could not understand), hear confessions, grant absolutions, give extreme unction, and take money to get dead people out of purgatory.”

How is this not true? One of the problems that Luther addressed was the sale of indulgences to get people out of purgatory or to prevent themselves from going there.. selling relics was big money maker as well.. Latin was the "official " language of the church..is that not true? Most Catholics could not understand Latin ... is that not true? What is he saying that is not true here??

Yeah.

Their shrillness has been escalating the last few months.

Maybe they’re trying to develop a new sound weapon against Proddys . . .

death by piercingly high frequency 2 year old RC SCREECHING, WAILING AND WHINING.

Or, perhaps, alternately . . .

they’ve awakened enough out of the mind-numbed stupor of the

Vatican Alice In Wonderland School Of Theology, Reality Mangling, Chronic Professional Blaming, Wailing and Whining Institute’s

Vulcan Mind Meld Walking Dead Mode

sufficiently to realize they’ve been losing the game on the playing field of ideas and congruent behaviors . . .

and it’s giving them terminal fits of appoplexy.

. . . which results in them doing what humans tend to do when things start failing more and more . . .

They start screeching louder and louder at higher and higher frequencies in more and more juvenile ways—all the while pretending that’s MORE mature, erudite, informed and brilliant!

Too bad they’re totally oblivious about how they appear to those NOT lost in the

VATICAN VULCAN MIND MELD WALKING DEAD MODE.

I guess when one has to look through so many White Hankies to view REALITY, REALITY gets QUITE distorted as a minimum.

I hope and pray some of them wake up before things start falling apart big time as well as falling out of the sky . . . literally.
