Really interesting post....some of which I am familiar with as I sought to find out about why catholics hold so fiercely to Mary. I am going to look further into his work as it is interesting to read and does explain much to understand where the roots of this pagan worship began.

So much like the enemy of mens souls to distract from the Savior by elevating one of Gods many servants over Him....and calling it Christian...when in fact it is indeed idolatry and hurts the very souls of those who practice Mariology.

Gamecock,

Have just finished reading more of MCArthurs sermons on the Catholic Sytem of Beliefs. WOW! Does he ever call a spade a spade and that with stong scripture easily read and understood.

I have suspected the worship of Mary in the catholic church is idolatry but I was willing to read and learn why they do this. Further investigation certainly proves that not only are they commiting idolatry...but I do believe they are under the judgement of God for doing so with the homosexual and pedophile’s infilitrating and securley fixed in their church. At the very least it is to be considered as the leadership certainly continues to be lax in ridding the church of those people...rather continues to stretch out their existance within.

I’ll be reading more of what McArthur is saying in this next week. He certainly brings it together remarkably well and agrees with all I have read in other sermons and writings. Most of all the scriptures prove it all.

Captain Obvious strikes again!
That other cultures worshipped false gods and goddesses surprises me not at all. That there is only one true God is also not a surprise. That Mary, the Mother of Christ is the true Queen of Heaven, yet another non-surprise. That Mary said generations shall call me blessed is certainly found in Scripture. Alas, the surprise is that Scripture does not account for those who refuse to call her blessed.

I bought the McArthur bible, off Amazon, large print for my Catholic MIL 2 or 3 years ago. she tries to read it, but understands nothing.

I have compared his commentary and understanding with the Hebrew OT and find no flaws, he is straight as an arrow and faithful to the Word of God.

He studies up to 8 hours a day, it's his job he says.

When he would go on Larry King, which is when most people saw him, he would be next to a Catholic priest, new age gurus, atheists, homosexuals, womens libbers, etc. There was no doubt in any Conservative's mind that he is the only sane one. The priest would be all wishy washy, angels and Mary, the new agers just goofy and McArthur sits there like Moses.

When I was in LA it was a member of his church that influenced me so much I returned to my Christian roots, and will be forever grateful to John M, even though we dont know each other.

Mary was a fallible human being, nothing more. She was not sinless.

I don't understand why it was necessary to integrate goddess mythology into the Catholic religion. It has no basis in scripture that I can see.

Mary should not be involved in the process of prayer in any way, shape, or form, anymore than any other sinful human such as the apostles Peter, Paul, etc.

Those who have a problem with seeing Mary as “Mother of God” also have a problem with Jesus Christ as both Man and God. To be mother of the flesh of Jesus is to be mother of God, since the two are inseparable by reason of assumption of humanity which God has done for the sake of saving all mortal flesh. What is not assumed is not saved by God, if Jesus was not fully God and fully man in one person we cannot say that God died on the cross for: “being found in human form he humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even death on a cross(Philippians (RSV) 2:8).

The two are yoked, his humanity and his divinity. What is predicated of the man is predicated of God. This is why the Catholic Church declares Theotokos, see the ecumenical council of Ephesus for more reasons why Catholics believe this is. To have ignorance of this role and title of Mary is to have ignorance of Christ.
