Top 10 Christmas Carols

Let the debate begin! Below is my subjective list of favorites, with videos of good to great renditions of each. I have also included my favorite line(s) of each song:

Top 10 Christmas Carols

10 - O Little Town of Bethlehem
Favorite line(s):
Yet in thy dark streets shineth
The everlasting Light
The hopes and fears of all the years
Are met in thee tonight

Shepherds, why this jubilee?

Which inspire your heavenly song?

I'm with "O Holy Night!" I cry every time I hear it sung.

I would also add Ave Maria, because without the Incarnation we would have no Baby Jesus at Christmas time.

Do go to the site to listen to the videos of these songs being sung!

When my children were younger they loved “The Little Drummer Boy”, but I think their tastes have changed — don’t know their favorites right now.

Agreed. ‘O Holy Night’ sung by a good female singer is hard to beat.

Anything Karen Carpenter sang. Especially Ave Maria.

That woman had an angel’s voice. She’s seranading God right now.

So many people do not know that the "O Antiphons" are what make up the verses of "O Come, O Come Emannuel"

Check it out on these links:

Praising the Names of Jesus: The Antiphons of Advent
The O Antiphons
Ego Cras (Anagram of the Messianic Titles of Christ in the "O" Antiphons)
Praying with the "O" Antiphons

O Antiphons -- Scriptural Detail of these Advent prayers
The Great Advent Antiphons
What are the “O Antiphons”?

**It asked for yours, not theirs.**

But I agree with the number one choice “O Holy Night.”

I think the one that is the most fun to sing is “Angels We Have Heard On High”.

Religious “What Child is this” and acoustic versions of “Silent Night”. Secular “Silver Bells”, Bingo’s “White Christmas” and Karen Carpenter’s “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” made even more poignant because we now know how alone and depressed she felt when she sang it.
