In Acts 21:10 and 11, Agabus visually and dramatically illustrated how Paul would be bound in Jerusalem and clearly laid what took place at the feet of the Jews . Prophets often symbolized their predictions (cf. 1 Kings 11:29-31; Isa. 20:2-4; Jer. 13:1-7; Ezek. 4). Although the Romans bound the Apostle Paul, THE JEWS’ were ultimately responsible for instigating what took place (cf. Acts 21:33; Acts 28:17).
According to Claudius Lysias who was an eye witness in his statement before Felix he clearly indicates that Paul had been ARRESTED BY THE JEWS and was about to be SLAIN by them. Although not specifically stated in the text, in all likelihood, Paul had indeed also been bound by the Jews at his arrest. It is kind of hard to kill someone unless you first bind them so that they cannot fight back or flee their captors.
“Claudius Lysias, to the most excellent governor Felix, greetings.
“When this man was ARRESTED BY THE JEWS and was about to be SLAIN BY THEM, I came up to them with the troops and rescued him, having learned that he was a Roman. (Acts 23:26-27 NASB, Emphasis added )
The last time I checked, the Jews, not the Romans initially arrested Paul and wanted to kill Paul:
"When the seven days were almost over, THE JEWS FROM ASIA, upon seeing him in the temple, BEGAN TO STIR UP ALL THE CROWD AND LAID HANDS ON HIM,
crying out, “Men of Israel, COME TO OUR AID! This is the man who preaches to all men everywhere AGAINST OUR PEOPLE AND THE LAW AND THIS PLACE; and besides he has even brought Greeks into the temple and HAS DEFILED THIS HOLY PLACE.”
For they had previously seen Trophimus the Ephesian in the city with him, and THEY SUPPOSED that Paul had brought him into the temple.
THEN ALL THE CITY WAS PROVOKED, and THE PEOPLE rushed together, AND TAKING HOLD OF PAUL T H E Y DRAGGED HIM OUT OF THE TEMPLE, and immediately the doors were shut.
While THEY WERE SEEKING TO KILL HIM, a report came up to the commander of the Roman cohort that all Jerusalem was in confusion.
At once he took along some soldiers and centurions and ran down to them; and when they saw the commander and the soldiers, THEY STOPPED BEATING PAUL.
THEN the commander came up and TOOK HOLD OF HIM, AND ORDERED HIM TO BE BOUND WITH TWO CHAINS; and he began asking who he was and what he had done.
But among the crowd some were shouting one thing and some another, and when he could not find out the facts because of the uproar, he ordered him to be brought into the barracks. (Acts 21:27-34 NASB, Emphasis added )
The last time I checked, the Jews, not the Romans initially arrested Paul and wanted to kill Paul. This is indeed TOTALLY CONSISTENT with the prophecy of Agabus found in Acts 21:10-11
And they were justified in doing so for the following reasons:
Deut 4:2 Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it, but keep the commands of the LORD your God that I give you.
Deut 12:32 See that you do all I command you; do not add to it or take away from it.
Deut 18: 20 But a prophet who presumes to speak in my name anything I have not commanded, or a prophet who speaks in the name of other gods, is to be put to death.”
Paul clearly subtracted from the Torah. He clearly was speaking presumptuously in G-ds name. He was to be put to death.
