Do you want the answer the nuns taught me? :) “God made me to know Him, to love Him, and to serve Him in this world, and to be happy with Him for ever in the next.” Still pretty good 50 years + later.

Ahhh the Baltimore catechism response, also memorized by me (more than 50 years ago ) LOL

That is far closer than stfassisi answer

RN-””Why did God create man?””
Out of love for love with a free will to choose His love or reject it

There is actually a more biblical response although i think the baltimore catechism, so often snickered at these days , is true, as far as it goes ,it is less than complete ..

I am waiting for Stfrans answer :)

“Ahhh the Baltimore catechism response,...”

You got it, RNMom! We could never forget those lessons no matter how many years later, could we! Imagine what those Irish Sisters of Mercy thought when it was the Greek Orthodox kid with the Irish name who memorized that response first in the class! :)

I suppose the Biblical and Patristic answer is really more simple than the Catechism one. God made us to be in His image and also, I think more importantly, in His Likeness.
