You got it, RNMom! We could never forget those lessons no matter how many years later, could we! Imagine what those Irish Sisters of Mercy thought when it was the Greek Orthodox kid with the Irish name who memorized that response first in the class! :)

I suppose the Biblical and Patristic answer is really more simple than the Catechism one. God made us to be in His image and also, I think more importantly, in His Likeness.

You are so right, memorization has fallen out of favor today.. but it set in the heart those things that are necessary to remember ..

Indeed we were made in His image, but again the question is why did He make us at all ?
