That was deplorable but not nearly as bad as his large-scale appointment of homosexuals to the episcopate. By the way, there is no real pedophile priest problem. Most all the abuses are against teenage boys, so the problem is with homosexuals, not pedophiles. The miracle of the Church is that it can survive popes like John Paul II.
Despite infestation of the hierarchy by homosexuals, the doctrine on morality has never changed. What protects Catholic teaching while mainline Protestant doctrine folds under similar pressure? It could only be the miraculous power of the Holy Spirit.
Holy Inquisition has renewed and restored the hierarchy repeatedly. It will eventually be brought back and the ranks of bishops and priests will be cleansed once again.
Whatever happened to *infallible in the matter of faith and morals*?
If the RCC has popes in it like JPII, then what about all the decisions he makes? What about the blessings on others that he allegedly bestows? Are they not valid?
Aren't Catholics obligated to follow the pope at risk of losing their salvation if they don't?
How could the Church make such a *mistake* as appointing a *bad* pope?
“Holy Inquisition has renewed and restored the hierarchy repeatedly. It will eventually be brought back and the ranks of bishops and priests will be cleansed once again.”
And there are so many more Jews and heretics to burn and behead now, too!
If John Paul II was in charge, the "Holy" Inquisition would never touch him. He is, after all, the leader of the Church. What the Inquisition really advocates is those enemies of the Pope to be "cleansed". So, in a very real sense the Inquisition (not withstanding the Jews and Muslims who were burned at the state) really got rid of the "good" Catholics who disagreed with the Church while reinforcing the bad. By nature, if you disagreed with the Church's right to have an Inquisition, then you must be a heretic subject to the Inquisition. Instead of purging itself of corrupt people at the top, the Church reinforced corruption while eliminating true believers.
Those who were unhappy with Catholic doctrine who weren't murdered left. Hence you see the Orthodox leaving in 1000AD, you see people leaving in the 13th century with the Church imposed requirement to fight in "Holy" Wars, and again the Reformers leaving in 1500AD because of the false doctrine. All the while Catholics keep yelling they are the true Church. A more modern approach for Protestants is that people who are not happy just simply pick up their share of the denomination and walk out; not unlike the Lutherans or Presbyterians. Unfortunately, this isn't an option for the "true" Church.
You will never cleanse the ranks of bishops and priests because the whole system is corrupted. What are you going to do about the homosexual Cardinals? And one day, probably not in the too distance future, you will most likely have a homosexual Pope. Is it any wonder that most Catholics today are Catholics in name only?
