In Christ Alone lyrics

Songwriters: Getty, Julian Keith; Townend, Stuart Richard;

In Christ alone my hope is found He is my light, my strength, my song This Cornerstone, this solid ground Firm through the fiercest drought and storm

What heights of love, what depths of peace When fears are stilled, when strivings cease My Comforter, my All in All Here in the love of Christ I stand

In Christ alone, who took on flesh Fullness of God in helpless Babe This gift of love and righteousness Scorned by the ones He came to save

?Til on that cross as Jesus died The wrath of God was satisfied For every sin on Him was laid Here in the death of Christ I live, I live

There in the ground His body lay Light of the world by darkness slain Then bursting forth in glorious Day Up from the grave He rose again

And as He stands in victory Sin?s curse has lost its grip on me For I am His and He is mine Bought with the precious blood of Christ

I wasn’t talking about you.

And if EVERYONE (both of them) on this thread gets to bring it up, why not courtesy ping EVERYONE else (both of them) to your comment instead of bringing the RM into it for a post that wasn’t even about you?

What’s your purpose for bringing the RM into a complaint about me over something I wasn’t even engaged in?

I wasn’t talking about you.

No, but you pinged me in 3855.

What’s your purpose for bringing the RM into a complaint about me over something I wasn’t even engaged in?

As I posted to the RM, it was a courtesy ping. That may be a novelty to you.

What would Catholics know about interpretation when the RCC says their sheep need to leave interpretation to them. And will spoon feed them with 'their' interpretation.

Catholics couldn't be expected to know how to interpret Scripture for two reasons.

One is that they've never been taught how to interpret Scripture. As you correctly said, it's interpreted for them and spoon fed them.

The other reason is lack of practice doing so. You can't practice what you weren't taught.

A Catholic telling a Protestant how to interpret Scripture or passing judgment on a Protestant's interpretation of Scripture, would be like me telling Michael Phelps how to swim.

You’re right, metmom.

NL - clearly you are wrong - it’s was the posters feelings towards St Paul. Why did you twist it back to the doings of Protestant’s? Is that what the RCC teaches you to do? Is that considered being well taught in the Catechism?

Sheesh, I just copied and pasted without paying close enough attention.

Besides, I’ve learned that situations like this are a lose/lose situation.

If I include someone, I get shredded for bringing it up.

If I don’t include someone, I get shredded for talking about them behind their back.

There’s just no pleasing some people so I just make the call and deal with the fallout later.

annalex wrote in reference to Matthew 25:31-46:
“Christ know our works better than we ourseves do. He separates thenm according to their works known to Him, and after separating them He explains the reason, and the reason is explicitly stated as their works.”

This is a fine explanation, I suppose, but it isn’t what the text says. The text, or let us put it more precisely, the Lord speaking of His own appearing on the last day in order to judge all people says that He will separate them “as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats.” This is not much of a picture of works, unless you are going to say that sheep do only inherently good works and goats do only evil works. This is just one of many ways Jesus explained who is who. Another way is found in your favorite part of the NT, the Sermon on the Mount. There He said, “Every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.” (Matthew 7:17-19) Would you not agree that Jesus is here also talking about Judgment Day, and the basis of salvation versus the basis of damnation? And if you do not agree, then what is He talking about?

So, here is the question: What makes the good tree good? Or, to put it in the language of Matthew 25:31-46, what makes a sheep a sheep? Please answer on the basis of the Gospels, and don’t resort to St. Paul.

How can a person interpret Scripture without the Holy Spirit to guide them? Without the Holy Spirit, it’s nothing more than seeming contradictions and confusion. Perfectly designed for “teachers”, having itching ears...wanting to be told what to believe, say, pray, and do for God’s approval.

"Apparently your recall is completely flawed."

My recall is near perfect. In a public thread Judith Anne stated that that she thought St. Paul loony. My offline discussions ascertained the reasons why. This reason concurred with mine. It is your mind reading that is flawed.

"And we don't expect Catholics to understand God's Word either for it is spiritually discerned."

A wise man once said; "don't assume the voices in your head are the Holy Spirit".

I wasn't reading anyone's mind. Your offline discussions were offline and nobody else was privy to it.

Since they were discussing the conversation on the public forum which is the only one the rest of us read, your comments are irrelevant and inappropriate to the discussion. Just because you know something, doesn't mean everyone else does as well.

What you consider wise is not.

The wise man didn't know the Holy Spirit - He doesn't talk to the head. Can't fault you though - you believed the 'wise man' and deception entered in.

Can you sprinkle the wise man with holy water and cast out his demons? Are maybe put him on some meds - it might quiet him down - enough for him to realize he's NOT so wise, after all.

The reasons why St Paul was a goofball, human garbage, not wrapped too tight, etc, etc?

The Catechism of the Catholic church claims they worship the same God.

For that matter, Islam began shortly after the Catholic church was established, well before the Protestant Reformation.

Ephesians 2:4-10 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ— by grace you have been saved— and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

Notice, Mark, the use of the past tense in the bolded part - past tense. God did this for us while we were dead in our trespasses and sins. We have it now. "The immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus" are yet to be seen.

Salvation is by grace through faith SO THAT NO MAN MAY BOAST. If works are part of it, it leaves room for man's boasting for his part in it. God then doesn't get all the glory.
