In Christ Alone lyrics
Songwriters: Getty, Julian Keith; Townend, Stuart Richard;
In Christ alone my hope is found He is my light, my strength, my song This Cornerstone, this solid ground Firm through the fiercest drought and storm
What heights of love, what depths of peace When fears are stilled, when strivings cease My Comforter, my All in All Here in the love of Christ I stand
In Christ alone, who took on flesh Fullness of God in helpless Babe This gift of love and righteousness Scorned by the ones He came to save
?Til on that cross as Jesus died The wrath of God was satisfied For every sin on Him was laid Here in the death of Christ I live, I live
There in the ground His body lay Light of the world by darkness slain Then bursting forth in glorious Day Up from the grave He rose again
And as He stands in victory Sin?s curse has lost its grip on me For I am His and He is mine Bought with the precious blood of Christ
There is no pagan Moon God. To assert so makes you a polytheist. There is only one True God that we all fall short of fully understanding, describing, and worshiping. Some of you more than others.
What a Bible scholar.
I should post to you on your schedule and not mine? Tough buns, cookies. The answer from the WCF is both direct and damning as Arian heresy. Follow the argument, if not going back to the original post in order to see what was actually originally posted, not a deceptive snippet of it.
Ah, yes. The old, *The Catholic church doesn’t mean what is says, it means what we have to interpret it for you to mean.*
There’s a word for people who say something other than what they mean. What is it now.......
Point for point. Very good.
You want to try actually answering the questions next time? You totally skipped any reference to them.
“Why don’t Catholics then pray as Jesus instructed - to the Father? Where did Jesus instruct to pray to dead people? His mother? Where are His instructions about holy water?
Peter himself called Paul’s writings *Scripture*. Is Peter wrong? “
chirp.....
chirp.....

.
Coming from our master of deception and dodging!
Thank you for admitting that you have no answer.
John 14:15,,, "If you love me, you will keep my commandments.
John 14:21 Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him."
John 14:23-24 Jesus answered him, "If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. Whoever does not love me does not keep my words. And the word that you hear is not mine but the Fathers who sent me.
Had God wanted unquestioned subservience He would have created us without free will.
The two are not mutually exclusive.
Obedience does not mean sniveling cowering out of fear.
Nobody said it did. Why bring it up?
Ah yes, let's toss out Paul the loony. I've heard the writings of John of Patmos should be tossed, too. Thanks to the hard work of so many faithful Catholic FReepers, the Church is down to just three Gospels and a handful of Epistles. Oh, and Tradition.
Good post,dear NL.
Love is a gift, not something forced on us blindly but something that is ever seeking and not self serving that can only abide in us with a free will and humble heart.
From the words of the late Bishop Sheen...
"Love that is only giving, ends in exhaustion; love that is only seeking, perishes in its selfishness. Love that is ever seeking to give and is ever defeated by receiving is the shadow of the Trinity on earth, and therefore a foretaste of heaven. Father, Mother, Child, three persons in the unity of human nature: such is the Triune law of Love in heaven and on earth. "No one can love without being born of God, and knowing God." (1 John 4:7) Love is an eternal mutual self-gift; the recovery in the flesh, or in the soul, or in heaven, of all that was given and surrendered. In love no fragment is lost."-Bishop Fulton Sheen
Bishop Fulton Sheen -Pray for us!
It is. It's how the RCC keeps it's adherents in line, through fear. The whole thing is built on fear.
Fear of sinning before communion.
Fear of sinning before your next confession.
Fear of not being good enough.
Fear of your works not making the grade.
Fear of being condemned by an angry, vengeful God whom only Mary can appease, and going to hell, directly to hell. Do not pass purgatory.....
Romans 8:15For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, "Abba! Father!"
2 Timothy 1:7...for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
The Reformation reconnected people with the understanding of the love of the God of the Bible, the one who died for them to forgive ALL their sins so they didn't have to live under a cloud of constant condemnation and fear of eternal hellfire.
The Catholic god shows no mercy. All remission of sins has to be earned. That's not mercy, that's subjection.
. Really?
. Mat 12:43 ¶ When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. Mat 12:44 Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth [it] empty, swept, and garnished. Mat 12:45 Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last [state] of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.
Evil spirits are not men. Wrong.
Luk 11:24 ¶ When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he saith, I will return unto my house whence I came out. Luk 11:25 And when he cometh, he findeth [it] swept and garnished. Luk 11:26 Then goeth he, and taketh [to him] seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last [state] of that man is worse than the first.
Evil spirits are not men. Wrong.
Let us see what precedes these words in order to put them in context:
36 25 I tell you, on the day of judgment people will render an account for every careless word they speak. 37 By your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned."
And who is He speaking to? He is reprimanding the Pharisees and their behaviour. Not the reprobate. Why is it that you guys so continuously, achingly, get it wrong? You are the Bahble Believers (t). Is is because the Bahble isn't enough? Perhaps you need God more.
. Looks like reprobation to me...
Looks like you need a new prescription for your eyewear. Perhaps Christianity can provide it.
Thank you for admitting that you have no answer.
I answered the question. The WCF quote is Arian in its setup of the role of Jesus. Read it yourself from an approved source if you don't like mine.
Reading that part sent chills down my spine. How much like Satan is the religion that teaches this nonsense! On the one hand they say "Christ alone paid for every sin" but on the other hand they say our sufferings, whether inflicted by a priest, by God or even by our own hand, atone (pay) for our sins. What that proves to me even more is that the organization that claims the mantle of the "one, true church" is nothing but a sham operating in full cooperation with the deceiver and the father of lies. To make it even worse, as if that were possible, they convince the "faithful" that they should suffer for their sins thereby rejecting the sacrifice Christ made for them substituting their own sacrifice and, in that rejection, they not only suffer wrongly but give up any hope of eternal life with God in heaven. Trusting in our own righteousness is rejection of Christ's righteousness. How evil and sinister is the enemy of man's soul???!!!
Just because I didn't give the answer you wanted does not mean I did not answer the question.
"Where did Jesus instruct to pray to dead people?"
The Saints are not dead. They are living in Heaven.
"Peter himself called Pauls writings *Scripture*. Is Peter wrong?"
Paul's writings are indeed Scripture because they give witness to the Gospel of Jesus, but they are not by themselves the Gospel.
"Where are His instructions about holy water?"
Beginning with Jewish Law and continuing through the actions of Christ Himself and on into the earliest of Christian times water was symbolically used for purification and expiation. I don't have time to look up all of the Scriptural examples but I'm sure you will. Here are but a few: John 13:5 " Then He poured water into the basin, and began to wash the disciples' feet and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded."
Lev. 8:6 "Then Moses had Aaron and his sons come near and washed them with water."
Ex. 30:18-19 "You shall also make a laver of bronze, with its base of bronze, for washing; and you shall put it between the tent of meeting and the altar, and you shall put water in it. "Aaron and his sons shall wash their hands and their feet from it"
Num 8:7 "Thus you shall do to them, for their cleansing: sprinkle purifying water on them, and let them use a razor over their whole body and wash their clothes, and they will be clean."
OMG! So much HATE! Obsessed with it.
These are the words of Jesus.
Matthew 10: 32 14 Everyone who acknowledges me before others I will acknowledge before my heavenly Father. 33 But whoever denies me before others, I will deny before my heavenly Father. 34 "Do not think that I have come to bring peace upon the earth. I have come to bring not peace but the sword. 35 For I have come to set a man 'against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; 36 and one's enemies will be those of his household.' 37 "Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; 38 and whoever does not take up his cross 15 and follow after me is not worthy of me. 39 16 Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.
Christians take up their cross and suffer for Christ. Those who declare themselves saved do not. Are they Christians according to Jesus?
The idea that an angel, who very nature is to serve God, can rebel against God, or that God cannot rid the world of this rebellious noëtic being is preposterous to say the least, no to mention that it's thoroughly pagan (Zoroastrian).
