Yet, with this post, you are doing exactly what you are accusing others of.....
"he said you serve the same god."
How many gods or Gods are there? For you believe that they are worshiping a god other than the one true God you would have to be a polytheist. The Pope, as a monotheist made a perfectly logical assertion that the Muslims are imperfectly describing and imperfectly worshiping the only God.
FOTFLOL.....
Care to provide some examples of polite thoughtful responses by Catholics so we can know what they look like?
I do believe Protestants are much closer to Muslims than they are to being Christians. Both Muslims and Protestants believe in sola scriptura, and both reduce Christ to level of "prophet" and a few chapters in a magic book. The Muslims prefer Mohammed over Christ, and Protestants prefer Paul over Christ. That's where they differ. I don't know if that subject has been addressed in a book or not, but I think a full study of this subject would be a very interesting read.
You need to take that up with annalex who said that Catholics are Pauline Christians and Paul's theology supports Catholicism.
Annalex said here
Everything S,.t Paul write is inspired scripture and supports the Catholic doctrines. Whoever disparaged St. Paul doesnt understand Catholicism. We are Pauline Christians.
Do you deny the miracles that the Catholic church included in the Bible and calls inerrant? Are you saying that the Catholic church lied when it said that Jesus raised from the dead and walked on water?
Every man his own pope. 30,000 versions of YOPIOT.
They continue on long after very polite and thoughtful Roman Catholics and Eastern Orthodox folks here have explained the errors in the Protestants views of Catholics.
You are talking to a great number of ex-Catholics. We are not lying; we know what we were taught. We are ripping the mask and exposing Catholicism for what it is.
Accusing us of lying is the last desperate defense of someone who has nothing left to argue with.
The Lawn Boy is getting to be quite a laugh here!
He doesn’t even seem to understand basic catholic doctrine, let alone grasp God’s word. But I do understand his resistance to Paul; it was Paul that exposed the doctrines of the pre-wrath rapture, and the purpose of the dispensations in God’s plan, in direct refutation of catholic dogma.
From the Catechism of the Catholic Church at vatican.va....
841 The Church's relationship with the Muslims. "The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind's judge on the last day."330
You know, it's one thing to accuse some other group of being like islam, but when it's self-admitted, well, that's a different story.
FWIW, I'm invoking Godwin's Law. You compared to islam. You conceded the debate.
> “I’ve seen her lie about things kosta has said many times, and I’ve read the lies here about Catholics worshiping Mary, statues and icons here way too many times...”
.
Its true; catholicism is essentially the worship of Ishtar in the guise of Mary, along with the worship of man made objects. They even post threads themselves about it almost daily.
Submit,MM, resistance is futile in the face of such humidity.
Well then, neti, neti to you. ;o)
That's funny coming from a Catholic since Catholicism teaches that tradition supersedes even written Scripture. Where's the stuff about Mary come from then? I don't recall seeing Jesus teach the fables that Catholicism spreads about her.
Why don't Catholics then pray as Jesus instructed- to the Father? Where did Jesus instruct to pray to dead people? His mother? Where are His instructions about holy water?
Peter himself called Paul's writings *Scripture*. Is Peter wrong?
Fine. Post them.
Let's look up what the Bible has to say about 'reprobate'. Now, the King James, and rather error filled version, has three references to 'reprobate'. Let us see what they are:
Romans 1:19Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. 20For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: 21Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 23And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. 24Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: 25Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. 26For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: 27And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. 28And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; 29Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, 30Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: 32Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
Here, the reprobate are the ones who know God, but reject Him in favour of their own lusts. With that, God washes His hands of them. Exactly the opposite of Reformed thought, in which God creates people to be reprobate. Paul pitches strike one against the Reformed belief.
2 Timothy 3: 1This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 4Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; 5Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. 6For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, 7Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. 8Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. 9But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as their's also was.
Reprobate concerning the faith, choosing to resist the truth of God. Hardly the reprobate of Reformed fame, created before time began. Paul pitches strike two to the Reformed.
Titus 1: 13This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith; 14Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth. 15Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled. 16They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.
They are of every works reprobate; rebuke them so that they may become sound in the faith. The very opposite of Reformed theology. Paul pitches strike 3: the Reformed side is out.
Notice that Jesus says nothing of the reprobate - only Paul, and in an entirely different form and meaning than the Reformed believe. Not only is there no Christ in your Christianity, there is only a wrong understanding of Paul. Thank you for once again proving we Christians' points for us.
God does not want blind submission to His will, He wants our love, freely given. That is what Jesus taught is the Greatest Commandment. Had God wanted unquestioned subservience He would have created us without free will. Obedience does not mean sniveling cowering out of fear. To obey (from the Latin ob-audire, to "hear or listen to") in faith is to submit freely to the word that has been heard, because its truth is guaranteed by God, who is Truth itself.
BTW - Thanks for reminding me why I have come to hate the religion forum.
Let's have the Gospel verse to support this statement.
"He that believeth not the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abideth on him" (John 3:36).
This verse has nothing to do with appeasing the wrath of God by Jesus, but with the rewards of disbelief of the individual. Is this the only Gospel verse that you can come up with?
Your verses from Revelation is about the rewards of the individual who follows the beast - nothing about the wrath of God upon Jesus. Why is it so hard for you guys to get anything right - you guys claim to be Bible Believers (t) and continuously get it wrong. Here is a good case in point. Even your verses in Paul have to be wrung out and twisted into the shape that you wish them to be.
Good move...checkmate!
This is not Trinitarian belief. Your verse texting will not work because the main part of the statement is this. I said that the WCF verse is heresy; you post part of that verse and try to get me to bite on that instead. The WCF is wrong. They are wrong in this and they are fundamentally wrong on many other beliefs that they call Christian but are modeled on or developed from first millennium heresies condemned by united Christianity.
Nice try Natural Law..but that is not what the Pope said nor did he assert such. Further the God Moslems worship is not the God of Christianity...it is the pagan Moon God.
A snippet of Numbers and a misrepresentation of Paul that as written includes all men, which the Reformed deny.
Some plan.
That may be the stupidest post I've read on FR this year. And believe me, there was a lot of competition.
Perpetuating a lie doesn't make it right or for that matter gain you any debating points in Heaven. The Church does not teach that tradition supersedes written Scripture, but compliments it since the entire Revealed Word is sacred. To deny that to oneself is a form of spiritual suicide.
The Church does however teach that there is a hierarchy to Scripture in which the actual spoken Words of Christ and His examples are at the core of His teachings. I do appreciate how disturbing that can be to Protestants who pour through the Old and New Testaments in search of a verse or two, that when taken out of context, appear to support some heresy or Reformist dogma. I just don't buy it.
> “Notice that Jesus says nothing of the reprobate...”
.
Really?

Mat 12:43 ¶ When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none.
Mat 12:44 Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth [it] empty, swept, and garnished.
Mat 12:45 Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last [state] of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.
.Luk 11:24 ¶ When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he saith, I will return unto my house whence I came out.
Luk 11:25 And when he cometh, he findeth [it] swept and garnished.
Luk 11:26 Then goeth he, and taketh [to him] seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last [state] of that man is worse than the first.

Looks like reprobation to me...
