Art Vanick on Glenn Beck and Mormonism
Out of Mormonism ^

Posted on 10/04/2010 12:57:36 PM PDT by Amerisrael

Art Vanick, co-author of The Spalding Enigma, Who Really Wrote The Book of Mormon, makes an appearance on Out of Mormonism to address the Glenn Beck Restoring Honor Rally.

Andy, Art, and Roger discuss the ramifications of the rally from a biblical Christian perspective.

Do Christians understand that Mormonism is different than biblical Christianity?

[ These are two separate "Out of Mormonism" radio podcasts from Mesa, Arizona. Very interesting.]

While Mormonism may not pose the violent / stealth and political threat that Islam does, from a spiritual standpoint, it is just as dangerous.

Yes, the dangers we members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints present:

,Marriage between a man and a woman; reinforced by Elder Boyd K. Packer in Sunday's General conference. Of course, the alternate lifestyle people have slammed him and the church's position. We believe in traditional marriage and have supported traditional marriage when states are trying to keep that standard (re: California.)

Family is central to our happiness in this life. I realize that there are many families out there with single parents, etc, however if a husband and wife can raise their children in a happy safe religious environment, those children have much more of a chance to make it.

We attend church each Sunday. We are taught to love our neighbors as ourselves. One of my favorite scriptures is (paraphrased) "If ye have done it unto the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me."

Humanitarian work. Who is there whenever a disaster strikes anywhere around the world? Hmmm, Pakistan comes to mind recently. Do you see any Muslims sending aid to the US when hurricanes hit (such as Katrina?) Nope. Do you see Mormons calling to kill people because someone draws a picture of our prophet, makes fun of our beliefs, etc? Nope.

Harry Reid is a very poor example of a man. He has lost his way because of politics. Hopefully he will be voted out in November. <> At this time, I don't understand why Christians are pointing fingers at each other. We need to unite and fight the common enemy that is trying to make Christianity and our beliefs a crime. Just read articles about school children being made to go to Muslim mosques and pray during school hours.

[ Yep - you have to watch out for those stealth bicyclists. ] Yeah, some came to my neighborhood yesterday and they were tossing molotov cocktails off their bikes burning down all of the non-mormon houses and churches. Do I really need a sarc?

Great comment. LOL.

Moromons are about the nicest people I know. A bit too square for me, but that’s hardly a big fault or anything.

I know that generally people say lds are conservative, however I can not think of a single well know elected lds who is conservative.

Jason Chaffetz from Utah, congressman. Ezra Taft Benson (ultra-conservative, alas, deceased.) Rob Bishop, congressman from Utah. Mike Crapo, Idaho US Senator: 92% rating from the ACU (not bad.) Jeff Flake: 100% ACU rating (Arizona congressman). James Gibbons: 96% ACU rating (Nevada congressman). Mike Lee, current candidate for the US senator from Utah (we booted Bob Bennett this year.) Orrin Hatch: watch out.

And I know many on this site detest Mitt Romney. I am on the fence about Romney, however I sure would rather have someone in the presidential office who knows something about business and life.

Please cite your sources where Mormons are colluding with the Islams and Muslim. I have no information on your ‘secret’ information, so please share.

Um, according to your prophets/teachers, teaching mormonism eternal progression, God was once a mortal and progressed into Godhoos where he fathered Jesus and Lucifer with his goddess wife (wives). How do you get God the Eternal Father out of that teaching? Here are two quotes from your teachers:

["We were begotten by our Father in Heaven; the person of our Father in Heaven was begotten on a previous heavenly world by His Father; and again, He was begotten by a still more ancient Father; and so on, from generation to generation, ... we wonder in our minds, how far back the genealogy extends, and how the first world was formed, and the first father was begotten" (Mormon leader, Orson Pratt, The Seer, p.132).

"Some people are troubled over the statements of the Prophet Joseph Smith.... The matter that seems such a mystery is the statement that our Father in heaven at one time passed through a life and death and is an exalted man. This is one of the mysteries.... The Prophet taught that our Father had a Father and so on. Is not this a reasonable thought, especially when we remember that the promises are made to us that we may become like him?" (Mormon leader, Joseph Fielding Smith, Doctrines of Salvation, vol. 1, pp.10, 12).

Count it all joy!

Blessed are ye, when [men] shall revile you, and persecute [you], and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great [is] your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you. - Matt 5:11-12

God's Name is I AM.

Honestly...To even mention Mormonism and Islam in the same breath is outrageous. These anti-Mormons are mentally unbalanced. ( Hate will do that to a person.)

The next time those bike riding Mormons are in my neighborhood, I'm inviting them in for lunch. Time to find out what Mormons believe from Mormons themselves.

I have yet to see in all of these threads discussing mormon doctrine any attempts by mormon apologiests to really defend their doctrine.

You imply that you have defended your doctrine many times and view it as pointless to do so now, but can’t you see that you come across as not being able to defend your faith. You spend the effort of providing links to other websites and engage in personal attacks, but you can’t seem to bother with providing logical counterpoints to other viewpoints.

It’s obvious to anyone who is not spiritually blind that you can’t defend mormonism.

Again, no one here has called themselves a “Mormon apologist”. Again, if you want to converse with one, try the links I provided. Some of them would qualify.

I don’t “imply” that I have defended Mormon doctrine, I have. By providing the source for any serious inquirer to see.

Also, I haven’t engaged in personal attacks. I suppose you could stretch some of my observations as such if you really wanted to but they were not meant to be. I on the other hand have been personally attacked several times and haven’t complained.

Nope. You still disagree. Not the same thing.

I’m giving up on explaining the other bit to you. Like most everything else, trying to explain anything to a blinder wearing anti is pointless.

Hi ampu,

I can defend my faith with my testimony.

I know that Jesus Christ is the Divine Son of God and Savior of the world.

I know that Joseph Smith was called of God to be a prophet — and through him the Church of Jesus Christ was restored in its fullness to the earth.

I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is led by Jesus Christ who guides and directs the affairs of His church through prophets and apostles.

I know these things through the manifestations of the Holy Spirit to me.

Best regards,

Normandy

“How just are they eternal when they were once man?”

You need to go read your Bible as it starts way back in Genesis recounts in places in the Old Testament and is then reaffirmed by Jesus Christ followed by Paul.

Are you actually denying that Jesus Christ was once a man? If he wasn’t a man then how was he crucified for our sins? I guess “anti-Mormon christians” do have a different “jesus.” How was he resurrected if he didn’t die as a man? When did he EVER give up his flesh to return to some shapeless, ethereal existence as described by the “learned” at the behest of Constantine.

“What did Joseph Smith learn to be UNTRUE about PRESBYTERIANism?”

What did Calvin see was so untrue about Catholicism? All Protestant religions are basically Catholic excepting the line of authority of the priesthood. Regardless of what Luther, Calvin, Smyth or any of the reformers did, they KNEW they did so without the priesthood authority.
So now that we cleared that up, you need to decide through thoughtful prayer and study regarding this question. Has The Priesthood always been on the Earth as the Catholics profess or was it Restored back to Earth through The Prophet Joseph Smith?

“The two PERSONAGES in JS’ vision PERFECTLY fit the description of BIBLICAL Angels of Light...”

There were people who lived when Jesus did, saw the miracles He performed, and cast it off as the work of the devil too. Nothing has changed.
