The Christian Community is laboring under false assumptions about Mormons. I used to be an anti Mormon and I believed all the lies I was told about Mormons. Blah blah blah. People of good will, with open minds, should take the time to read the LDS Articles of Faith and the Book of Mormon. A Southern Baptist pastor named Lynn Ridenhour read the Book of Mormon and discovered the Truth.

But of course your mind is already made up. How sad. You will continue to condemn Mormons without knowing the Truth.

Why stop there?

Read the GOOD stuff; like the Book of Abraham and the Pearl of Great Price, and the D&C that you SLC Mormons tend to IGNORE - D&C 132.

The Articles of Faith
of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

  1. We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.
  2. We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam's transgression.
  3. We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.
  4. We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.
  5. We believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof.
  6. We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.
  7. We believe in the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, visions, healing, interpretation of tongues, and so forth.
  8. We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.
  9. We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.
  10. We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory.
  11. We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.
  12. We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.
  13. We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul—We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.

Joseph Smith

You will continue to condemn Mormons without knowing the Truth.

MORMONs condemn themselves; after having LEARNED the Truth; they continue in MORMONism.

your mind is already made up

Reading the mind of another Freeper is a form of "making it personal."

Discuss the issues all you want, but do not make it personal.

But of course your mind is already made up. How sad. You will continue to condemn Mormons without knowing the Truth.

How do you know that I haven't explored Mormonism thoroughly? In my years in graduate school, I spend hundreds of hours in discussions with Mormons and many hours reading the materials that they suggested I read. Most of it was official LDS publications or literature from groups closely aligned with the LDS church (even if it was not official). Obviously, none of it was intentional "anti" material but actually it turned out to be. If a well-grounded Christian reads Mormon literature with care, the errors of Mormonism are apparent as several people have pointed out when you printed the Articles of Faith of the LDS "church".

A Southern Baptist pastor named Lynn Ridenhour read the Book of Mormon and discovered the Truth.

What's that prove? The Bible tells us that several followers of Jesus left Him. I could just as easily claim that Mr. Ridenhour is just a modern-day example of false followers of the truth falling away.

You will continue to condemn Mormons without knowing the Truth.

We've been through this before. I don't condemn Mormons, I condemn Mormonism, I don't condemn Muslims, I condemn Islam. It is the evil systems that blind people to the true Jesus Christ that I condemn, not the victims. By the way, the true Jesus Christ, not the fiction of Joseph Smith and Brigham Young.

A Southern Baptist pastor named Lynn Ridenhour read the Book of Mormon and discovered the Truth; mixed in with a bunch of lies.

Lynn Ridenhour has been a Baptist Minister for over 39 years, exercising the gifts of the Spirit and living by faith.

Having been numbered among the avidly anti-Mormon-cult crowd, he was miraculously converted to the gospel according to Joseph Smith upon reading the Book of Mormon.

He joined the LDS church for a few years but presently is disassociated so as to not be unfettered in his ministry.

Yet he retains his commitment to the restoration gospel, though certainly not ignorant of the saints shortcomings in regard to their magnificent destiny.

His primary gift and mission in life seems to be to stir the coals of revival among the charismatic-inclined who are numbered among the various restoration movements.

(From: http://www.greaterthings.com/Ridenhour/index.html )

Ephesians 4:11-16

And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:

That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

“The Christian Community is laboring under false assumptions about Mormons.”

Empty claims. Show us which assumptions are “false”.
