When it was formed, one cartoonist depicted it as the result of a politician launching a spew of tobacco juice at the map. There are 3 congresscritters representing Charlotte, the largest city in the state. One is Watt (D) who has voters in Winston-Salem (80 miles away), another is Kissell (D) who has voters in Fayetteville (137 miles away); and the real one, Myrick (R) who represents most of the city.
