I thought in order to "subsidize" something the government actually had to give it funds. Aren't conservatives uncomfortable with the idea that religious institutions, being untaxed because of their non-profit status, are labeled as being subsidized?

NO WAY!!! No other church would receive public financing. Separation of church and state ya know. We cannot allow any public money because that would be contrary to what the government always tells other religious institutions.
And the Mosque cannot preach hatred or political activism in the name of Allah. Violation of not for profit organizations involved in political campaigning.

So the Federal Govt. sends Imam Rauf, and now his wife Daisy Kahn, to Arab countries at tax payers’ expense, probably to raise money for the mosque, but if they can’t raise enough money, not to worry, tax dollars will pay for the building of the mosque, too.
