"The clergy, by getting themselves established by law and ingrafted into the machine of government, have been a very formidable engine against the civil and religious rights of man." --Thomas Jefferson to Jeremiah Moor, 1800.

"History, I believe, furnishes no example of a priest-ridden people maintaining a free civil government. This marks the lowest grade of ignorance of which their civil as well as religious leaders will always avail themselves for their own purposes." --Thomas Jefferson to Alexander von Humboldt, 1813. ME 14:21

"In every country and in every age, the priest has been hostile to liberty. He is always in alliance with the despot, abetting his abuses in return for protection to his own." --Thomas Jefferson to Horatio G. Spafford, 1814. ME 14:119

That being said, lets all agree that it would be foolish to think that our Catholic fellow citizens (including much of my own family) are due loyalists (the countless Catholics who have died in service to their country prove this) nor that even many in the clergy desire a dictatorship. Nevertheless, there remains an extremist wing in the RCC (which includes a handful of freepers) who are outright hostile to the principles of the Anglo-Scottish Enlightenment that gave birth to this country, and who seek the return of a so-called "glorious age" when all are/were united religiously under Rome (the "unity" has been disproved by the countless wars, between Christian nations, as well as conflicts between throne and altar), and the Enlightenment never happened.

The best thing to do with these people is to point and laugh. Merely a Confederacy of Dunces.

Quite reasonably and accurately put, I think.

However, the lot of them seem to have 0.0000000000% insight.

No insight into the blokes in their mirrors.

And no insight into their . . . POLITELY—PROBLEMATIC . . . INSTITUTION . . .

Evidently mirrors are anathematized under the Vatican umbrella.
