I don’t think we can expect too much reason. I don’t see how a rule can be crafted that will make personal comments impossible without making reasonable discourse also impossible.

I think we have to tolerate:
A) I’m a Catholic.
B) All Catholics are stupid preverted reprobates.

Or the RM ends up having to make too many judgment calls.

The use of “I statements,” while usually a good idea, is not going to be effective. “I think you’re a moron,” is technically an “I statement” but is about as personal as it gets.

“I think that’s a moronic argument,” is marginally better, but is so rarely followed by a good analysis of the argument that it’s not much less insulting.

I would tend to pull “I think you’re a moron,” and to tolerate “I think that’s a moronic argument.”

I think this may be a moronic post.

Probably not necessary. It looks like the opposition has gone off to dip their thumbs in honey and pout off the stage for once.

Now, now.

You know, I THINK,

that at least some of us Proddys, probably most if not all, with rare exceptions,

do NOT think ALL RC’s are goobers or whatever . . . just those with thin skins and rabidly irrational fantasies flung about in the shrillest of terms.

You didn't actually complete the text -- it's necessary when you read posts as well as newspapers to go beyond the headlines. The post was about the pent-c-coastal neo-Montanist pastor William Branham who denied the Trinity and taught it was a demonic doctrine believed only by those of the whore Babylon false church and yet he is still revered as a true prophet by almost every major Pentecostal and Charismatic ministry (who are Trinitarian). Even though he believed in numerology and taught that God had made the Great Pyramid - he is still accepted as a true prophet. Even though many of his prophecies regarding future events did not come to pass - he is still regarded as a true prophet. Even though the majority of his teachings are totally in error and diametrically opposed to the plain teaching of Scripture, he is still held up as God's true prophet.

William Branham's heretical theology:

  1. God's Word consists of the zodiac, Egyptian pyramids and scripture.
  2. Doctrine of trinity is considered demonic
  3. The claim that he was Elijah the prophet

Unless you agree with him. Do you?

So, the Athanasian Creed nicely encapsulates Christian belief. I guess you as a Baptist agree to it’s points, right?

On my watch, spiritual maturity will not be a prerequisite for posting on an “open” Religion Forum thread.

So now Iscool presumes to be better than +Athanasias!

31. God of the substance of the Father, begotten before the worlds; and man of substance of His mother, born in the world

I'll ask you your question "scripture where it says it no longer was the same substance"? --> Jesus' flesh was glorified, yet it was the same, hence +Thomas being able to poke his fingers in the wounds.

Iscool: Jesus had a a terrestrisl body...Jesus now has a celestial body...A spiritual body...Different body altogether...

And where did you get this that Jesus discarded His human body? Why was there an empty tomb then?

And if I am debating with you and then turn around and say Cvengr’s group are white-hanky worshippers of a monkey god and are not Christians. Is that personal or not? (Of course it’s false — I may believe that your beliefs are flawed, but you are Christian, unlike the Unitarians and others on this thread)

I guess “spiritual” decency is out, too.

Unless one is “making it personal.”

It’s fascinating how some of the rabid clique folks are forever deepening the meaning of relentless bitterness—seemingly without a shred of insight about doing so.

Decency is in the eye of the beholder. To some Muslims, a woman not wearing a burka is indecent.

I do care about potty language because, on the Religion Forum, even the use of a mild reference will be taken as a permit to use a stronger one and on and on. That is spiritual childishness, but even the most immature can say what he believes or does not believe on an "open" Religion Forum thread.

Dear Religion Moderator,

I think that the proposed modifications are a bad idea.

I would write a long post explaining why, but my sense is that it would be a waste of time. I have no sense that you're really paying attention.

I don't know why you resist reason, but those are your actions.

Your new rules will make the posting climate here worse. They exacerbate the anti-Catholic bias in the rules.

They shelter even more bad behavior by reducing further the "cost" for such behavior.

But the rules are already pretty bad, and this doesn't make them all that much worse.

Two things come to mind:

And... you chased "presently no screen name" for being too thin skinned.

Is their a constant complainer category too?

Dear Religion Moderator,

“Decency is in the eye of the beholder.”

These are the sorts of things I expect liberals to tell me. You know, “it's all relative.” “There are no moral absolutes.” And so on.

It reminds me of pro-aborts, “Not everyone thinks it's a baby.”

* sigh *

While the window is still open can we review the use of pejoratives and offensive terms? Terms like Papist, Romanist, RC, Snake Handlers, Bible Thumpers, Jesus Freaks, O-PeCkers, Dunkers, Hebes, Kikes, Christ Killers, etc, that are clearly, historically, and demonstrably offensive have no place in an Religion Forum.
