Personally, I’ll take freedom in Christ any day instead of putting myself back into the bondage inflicted by the Catholic church.

Christ said that the truth would set us free and who the Son sets free is free indeed.

Performing religious tasks and obligations under coercion is not freedom in Christ.

AMEN!

RC apologists do not seem to understand the spiritual things of God. They believe salvation is found in a wafer given by "another Christ" after it has been levitated to just the correct height.

But Scripture tells us that Christ is with us always because He is spiritually-discerned by those given a renewed mind and a regenerated spirit and a heart of flesh and new eyes and ears.

Rome simply reveals it is not in possession of those gifts.

You're right, OR did say Throughout 1 Timothy 2 Paul makes it very clear he is speaking for himself and himself only. This is a letter, not Scripture.

So I wonder if Rn and Dr. E agree with that?

Would you not agree to the following facts (and it's been hashed and re-hashed earlier on this thread)?

1. God is ONE, there is ONE God, not multiple
2. Jesus was/is/will forever be 100% God and 100% Man
3. You cannot separate these two natures of 100% God and 100% Man, they are completely intertwined.
4. Mary was his mother, the bearer of God, Jesus Christ

Well, the OPC split once to form the BPC, then another time to form the APC. They may run out of acronyms soon or just reduce to being the West-Central Branch of Bapto-PresbyLuthMethodistic Adventist Scientist Schreechers (or WCBBPLMASSes)

That was hilarious! the Covenant of Unitarian Universalist Pagans (CUUPs) which says

The Covenant of Unitarian Universalist Pagans (CUUPS) was chartered by  the Unitarian Universalist Association at the General Assembly in 1987 for purposes of enabling

  • networking among Pagan Identified UUs; providing outreach of Unitarian Universalism to the broader Pagan community continentally.
  • providing educational materials on Paganism for Unitarian Universalist congregations and the general public.
  • promoting Pagan - Jewish & Christian dialogue; encouraging the development of theo/alogical and liturgical materials based on earth and nature centered religious and spiritual perspectives.
  • encouraging greater use of music, dance, visual arts, poetry, story, and creative ritual in Unitarian Universalist worship and celebration.
  • providing support for Pagan-identified UU religious professionals and ministerial students; and fostering healing relationships with our mother the Earth and all her children.

Actually, we Christians worship JEsus who was 100% God and 100% man.

I know that's strange for your group, but that's what we Christians believe in.

And your group is free to worship Melek Taus or whatever other names your group gives to the Lord of the underworld.

Actually, it was one of your cohorts here, Old Reg who wrote 1 Timothy 2 in a "condensed" version which supports the typically misogynistic view

Perhaps you can ask him and the rest of the QP cliche here: Is he (+Paul) *in* now that you have a doctrine you want his teachings to support?

Or perhaps your cohorts agfree with post 13108 by Old Reggie: This is a letter, not scripture"

T-st’s statement is about as logical as saying that Barbara Bush who is the mother of George W Bush became George W Bush! And his (T’s) statement is as logical as saying that by extension Barb became President! In reality, Barbara Bush was mother of the President and no doubt had his ear, though she had no power at all over him.

I certainly know better than to get tricked into posting the statement of faith of the group I attend now.

Why? Because it resembles the CUUPs group? Or it has outlandish statements?

And I notice the "now" -- so could there have perhaps been a number of different groups attended earlier after you left The Church, each with varying meanings and interpretations on sola scriptura?

And, yes, many people go through periods of doubt. My junior year of Bible College brought me to the point of asking why? I seriously thought about quitting. And because my heart was open to him, the Lord gave me the answers and the assurances that I was in the right place and that what I was learning was the truth.

Even in times of despair and heartache where it would be so easy to chuck it all, a child of God will never lose his deep heart faith. He may run from God and try to live his life the way he wants, but it only leads to more heartache and after enough time goes by, he returns home. That is because his Heavenly Father has never given up on him, never stopped drawing him back, never stopped loving him and stands there waiting with open arms to welcome back and fully forgive because that is the kind of God he is and he never breaks his promises to us. God is NOT afraid of our doubts but is willing and waiting to answer everyone of them. We just have to trust him.

Well, I for one pray that you are never really tested.

Re: your "drinking game" My dad said what he liked most about the Catholics was that he could go out on the golf course with the priests and they would tell dirty jokes, smoke and then drink like fish back at the clubhouse afterward. He though that kind of behavior was okay, fine.

Why does the clergy get such a pass on things other Christians would consider as sinful? Excessive drinking, smoking, cursing and telling dirty jokes sure doesn't sound like how a man who is "acting in the place of Jesus Christ" should be. Is it just me being a prude or does anyone else see a disconnect here?

"And I notice the "now" --"Most fringe Protestants are indeed Church hoppers that at any given time belong to three congregations; the one they attend, the one they have heard great things about, and the one they won't set foot in again.

That was hilarious! It gets better:

It seems that first there were two Pentecostal groups: the Bible Standard Conference (BSC) founded in Eugene, Oregon in 1919
The Bible Standard Conference(BSC) was formed in 1919 after Fred Hornshuh and several other ministers withdrew from the Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) led by Florence L. Crawford. Hornshuh disagreed with the AFM’s isolationist stance from other full gospel groups, centralized and authoritarian leadership style, and its strict position on divorce and remarriage.
and

the Open Bible Evangelistic Association (OBEA) founded in Des Moines, Iowa in 1932;the OBEA split fromthe International Church of the FourSquare Gospel (ICFG) because of the ICFG's Sista Aimee's remarriage.

And, since 1996, the OBSC is now the OBC!

Talk about acronym jungle!

Thank you for that. I appreciate the prayers of the righteous. What makes you think I haven't been "really" tested already?

And, as your following post points out, the International Church of the FourSquare Gospel (ICFG) had many more splits, like the split in 1968 to form the Calvary Chapel (CC) which
In December 1965, Chuck Smith became the pastor of a 25-person congregation and in 1968 broke away from the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel in Santa Ana, California. Before Smith became their pastor, twelve of the 25 members attended a prayer meeting about whether or not to close their church: they reported that "the Holy Spirit spoke to them through prophecy" and told them that Chuck would become their pastor, that he would want to elevate the platform area, that God would bless the church, that it would go on the radio, that the church would become overcrowded, and that he would become known throughout the world
woo hoo! And it gets better!
In 1969, Calvary Chapel became associated with what later became known as the Jesus Movement when Chuck's daughter introduced him to her boyfriend John, a former hippie who had become a Christian. John then introduced Chuck to Lonnie Frisbee, a hippie Christian who would eventually become a key figure in the Jesus Movement and in Calvary Chapel. Lonnie moved into Chuck's home, and in a few days, more hippies moved in with Chuck and his wife
But the sad thing is that this splitted (?!) group had it's own split
In 1982, John Wimber, a Calvary Chapel pastor, and the Calvary Chapel(CC) leadership mutually agreed to part ways. Tension had been mounting over Wimber's emphasis on spiritual manifestations leading Wimber to withdraw from Calvary Chapel and affiliate with a network of churches that would become the Association of Vineyard Churches (AVC)
More Acronyms!

But wait, you should ask the other members of the QP cliche here what they think of the Toronto Blessing by the AVC(Association of Vineyard Churchs), a breakaway group of the CC(Calvary CHurchs), which broke away from the FoursQuare (FQ) group. Anyway, the Toronto Blessin was
Critics, such as Hank Hanegraaf in his book, "Counterfeit Revival", charged the Toronto Blessing (under Wimber's authority at the time) with promoting heresy for three main reasons:

first, claiming unusual experiences of the Holy Spirit including physical responses, speaking in tongues, and prophesying;

second, claiming that these experiences of spiritual revelation were equal in importance to the Bible; and

third, claiming that these experiences were a sign that God was doing "something new."
Quix - - what do you think of these criticisms by Hank Hanegraaff an "evangelical radio-talk-show host" on this sub-sub-sect of the Pentecostals?

Perhaps we could ask our fellow posters to raise their hand when you come to their denomination...

ooo -- that would take too much time, since these cults keep splitting and re-splitting every few minutes!

NL, I’m sorry to say this, but I object to you calling groupings like the CC, AVC, etc. as a “church” — these are just cults, not Churchs like the ones among Protestants: Anglican, Methodist, Lutherans etc.
