Jesus himself tells you in the same passage that the flesh profits nothing, the Spirit and the Word gives life, and the only life He's ever talking about is spiritual.

Which Pope called the first Ecumenical Council?
The First Council of Nicaea was called by the Roman Emperor Constantine, though he WAS NOT a participant. The decisions of the First Council of Nicaea are accepted by Catholic, Orthodox and nearly all mainstream Protestants. The only ones that have problems with it are these fringe sects that aren't even Christians.
However, what does this have to do with the synod that the Byzantine Emperor Constantine V called in the middle of the 8th century? This synod has NEVER been accepted by the Catholic Church, nor do I believe that it has been accepted by the Orthodox Church.
Do you understand that Rome and Constantinople are over 1000 miles apart?
Do you understand that there was already tension between the Popes and the Patriarchs of Constantinople by this time?
Do you understand that no Byzantine Emperor or Patriarch of Constantinople EVER claimed to be the Pope. A major reason for the East-West Schism is the fact that the Orthodox REJECT papal primacy.
Now, you have stated that the Byzantine Emperor controlled the Church in the middle of the 7th; however, it is acknowledged that the Popes were later in charge, so answer the following:
1. When did this transfer of authority take place?
2. At what event did this transfer take place?
3. Who was involved? Which emperor, which bishops?
4. What was the reason for this transfer? Why did the emperors want to surrender authority?
5. Why was authority given to the Bishop of Rome and not the Patriarch of Constantinople?

Read the earlier post — there was pretty adequate examples from scripture and from First Century sources (the Didache and +Ireneus) —> if you think you know better about First Century Christians than they knew themselves, keep on believing it.

As a Unitarian who hasn’t attended mass, your words of sham wisdom hold as much weight as a wiccan or atheist — both fellow Unitarians.
That is utterly false. The reason is theological. The East rejects innovated doctirnes, dogmas and practices such as the filioque, papal infallibility, the concept of Purgatory, Imamculate conception, created grace, Augustinian original sin theory, Anslem's teaching of atonement, etc.
Papal Primacy is a matter of the 6th Ecumenical Council and the Orthodox subscribe to it. The issue is what that "primacy" means. To the West it means universal jurisdiction (which is in conflict with the 4th Ecumneical Council).
To the East is means primacy of honor above all, and privilege and prestige. But the East rejects an episcoopal ruler. It also rejects the innovated titles such as the "vicar" of Christ and similar things unknown to the undivided Church of the first millennium.
