MetMom Serious Prayer Need--EATING threatened [Update @560]
Curious space between Quix's ears & consulatations w MetMom | 18 AUG 2010 | Quix

Posted on 08/21/2010 9:18:48 PM PDT by Quix

Metmom has had allergies and food allergies her entire life. In the last few years they have gotten steadily and progressively worse. Foods have been dropping out of her diet until she reached the point she is at now and can only eat rice, chicken, lamb, and venison. Anything else causes her to react rather destructively, debilitatingly.

The problem is that the repeated continual exposure to the few remaining foods, could lead to a sensitivity to those as well, which has just happened to two foods she had been safely eating since October.

There are options for nutrition should she start to react to all foods, but they are used only in the most dire situations. She's concerned about reaching that point--and frankly has been feeling more than a little discouraged by all such.

She has undergone extensive medical testing which has all been inconclusive. Almost everything comes back normal or negative, and the few things that she does test positive for aren’t what causes her the most problems.

She is attempting to get into a regional medical center for more specialized medical evaluation to see if they can determine the cause and possible treatment, if any exists.

She has been prayed for and anointed numerous times over the years, however, she would appreciated continued prayer for complete healing.

PLEASE UNDERSTAND HER PLIGHT with as much empathy as you can. She's been through a 1,001 suggestions and tried a LOT of different things. She's been through the Henry Wright seminar and prayers extensively. I don't think she is quite up to handling any more suggestions currently. Those who've been through such can understand such a feeling. She just greatly would appreciate your understanding and PARTICULARLY YOUR CARING PRAYERS.

This summary is per my understanding and might be stated somewhat differently were she writing it herself. I believe she'd affirm the truth of what I've said but these are essentially my words.

THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR PRAYERS.

tapioca has NO WHEAT GLUTEN but it's sticky. Mix it with almost any type of flour (except wheat/barley/rye) and it will stiffen it up to give you something much more like regular baked goods, etc.

My grandmother used to cook with tapioca and oatmeal flour all the time ~ made things without wheat. She didn't know why she "liked" the stuff, but my father said she made everything that way.

Many of those expensive pre-made gluten free products contain tapioca.

I don’t think mine is a gluten sensitivity with the things I can’t eat, but I’ll look into that.

It does sound like it has overtones of things your liver does or does not want to deal with.

milk thistle is good for the liver, can buy it in capsules or in the spices bin at health food stores. Grind it up fine and add to drinks.

My diet is pretty much meat and potatoes, but beef has a lot of glutamates which is similar to histamine. also some fish I react to-- bass and snapper, and sometimes salmon. I avoid the farmed salmon like it's poison. and those Sa'ami genes, lol, we have never eaten sheep either, mom said not to, lol

Metmom,
A fellow here at work suggested you look not at food allergy but at food sensitivity. Apparently food sensitivies can allude the normal testing. He suggested a book by Dr. James Braly called Food Allergy and Nutrition Revolution. His daughter has sensitivities and the work has helped. Also, another angle he mentioned is candida overload. With the oral thrush that may back that up. It may not be an allergy, just an overgrowth in your system. I hope some of this helps.

I’m looking into the candida angle and trying some other things.

I found the sea salt I had been using has anti-caking agents in it so I cut that out and went to kosher salt and am feeling somewhat better.

I’m going to go back and try a few things that I tried earlier this year that I had used the sea salt on. Maybe it wasn’t those foods after all.

Wow! Wouldn’t that be something if it were the salt!

Managing. I’m trying small quantities of other foods. I did OK with a little bit of pear, and had a couple small mushrooms last night that didn’t appear to cause any reaction.

The problem is, unless I don’t eat at all, I have symptoms of some kind. So my criteria now is that something doesn’t cause any markedly different symptoms that what I just kind of chronically experience anyway.

Even if something causes a slight reaction, I can do it on occasion and just live with the slight reaction.

I also have an appointment with a specialist in Boston in October, who deals with mast cell disorders. We’ll see where that goes.

Thanks for your prayers.

Well, the baking soda in the salt.

I tried baking soda to brush my teeth with, instead of just plain water (yuck) and that bothered me a lot, and that was quite a while ago, but I never thought that the salt would have that in it until I checked.

I have to read labels diligently and you’d be surprised what’s in foods that you’d never expect. Or see a need for.

Candida can certainly be a cause. The fungus overgrows in the intestines and putting down roots, causes holes. then the food proteins leak into the blood, which is why it's called "leaky gut syndrome". You react to all the proteins.

the cure can be rough, so you need to have a doctor supervise. the pills they give you causes the fungus to die off and when it does it releases toxins and you feel like you have the flu for a few days, but that's good, because it's being killed. then you need some probiotics to replace the bacteria-- these good bacteria will swarm into the holes in the intestines and fill them up. Then you avoid yeasty foods-- bread, beer, etc. Praying for you MM

The problem is getting a doctor who will go along with yeast treatment like that. Diflucan works the best. I was on it for about three weeks one time after a particularly tough case of oral thrush that someone FINALLY agreed needed more aggressive treatment and I felt MUCH better for it.

But alas, it didn’t last. And nobody would renew the Rx for it because it’s hard on the liver.

The other problem is getting the probiotics in me. Some of them I react to and I’d like to do that under medical supervision as well, until I know I could tolerate it. But getting that kind of one on one supervision for any extended time doesn’t come for the asking either.

I think any natural doctor, Naturopath, will prescribe that right off

Absolutely, they’re medical doctors. The difference is in the personal care they give you—they try to find the cause of illness, not treat the symptoms and push pills on you

ask for their degrees, you can probably research one online near where you are, and can see which are the best.

What a novel concept.....

What a refreshing change that would be.

well, my doctor actually took me in and gave me hours of personalized care, and it’s covered by insurance. I’m alive now because she did something. You’ll never get anywhere with mainstream doctors. If they say to you “take these pills” they are working for the drug cos, give them back and keep looking.

Hello metmom....I see you are still having difficulties eating. I am so sorry for that.

I think I mentioned prior my son having celiac disease. It took a months hospitilization before they found the problem. Everything he ate washed thru it seemed. They were considering sending him to Cleveland Clinic as he was so weak and loss of weight so great.

My daughter-in-law did go to the ‘Weiner clinic’ in Pittsburgh finally...after years of being treated for asthma and horrific coughing so bad she couldn’t lay down.. and a host of other breathing difficulties. Office visit was $85.00...and that very appointment he told her she was allergic to detergents....also dairy products. She washed her bedding in the detergent he gave her, (which is equal to price of any detergent), and that very night layed down without coughing for the first time in years! She and my son were stunned! She has been well since. You might inquire of the Weiner clinic....he has a radio program as well and speaks often of foods etc. I’m sure he has a web site.

I wish I could answer your questions....really...and give you a clean bill of health. But these are the experiences in my family and the answers which finally came.
