To: small voice in the wilderness
THe greatest false gospel of the last thousand years is that a person has anything to do with his salvation. That he can work his way to heaven. That the finished work of Christ is not enough.
I have a family member who is dying. He's Catholic but has been out of church his entire life since High School. He pleaded to see a priest after entering Hospice a couple weeks ago and has received the sacrament of the sick. I cringe every time I hear him proclaim, "I'm good with the church! I'm back with the church!"
Now he wants Thirty Gregorian Masses to pray himself out of purgatory and is laying in bed with a brown scapular which is supposed to protect him from imminent hellfire.
Salvation is so simple, it doesn't require you to be good with anyone but God and provides a peace that no religious artifact can provide.

To me, it’s the most tragic thing that can happen. I will keep him in my prayers. For the TRUTH of God’s Word to reach him. Take heart, TSgt, we do what we can. We witness the love of the truth, we pray and we make ourselves available if needed or wanted. You know? SVITW

I will keep him in prayer. There is always the hope that someone presents The Gospel to him before he dies and he is truly saved.

Amen, a thousand times AMEN!

Sorry to see your family member in this state...it must be difficult beyond measure to see him as so. Is he open to hearing about Christ? Does he understand his salvation is thru what Christ has done for Him?
Praying then that if not the Lord will send one who can reach him. Do you know what conversation the Priest might have had with him concerning his salvation?

Would he follow you in praying remotely earnestly and sincerely . . .
A sinner’s prayer;
forgivness of everyone for everything beginning with those most difficult etc.
You could emphasize it’s important at this stage of his life to take care of such crucial details and give the Biblical basis for such.
