What did I post deceptively? All I did is copy and post from the comments put up by the FReepers. It’s their words, not mine.

I don’t know what you mean about “Words not posted by a Catholic and deceptively posted here as if they were.” Natural Law claims to be a Catholic, unless he’s had an epiphany in the last couple hours.

small voice in the wilderness (post 3,375): “THANK YOU Reggie, for that. It seems the Scripture’s PLAIN wording isn’t enough. How hard can it be to read what the word says? Unless you don’t LIKE what it says. Then what to do? I guess one can always start a religion, based not on what God’s Word says but traditions that say something very different...”

Natural Law (post 3,376): “ Of course it isn’t or God would not have added to the revealed Word of God through Apostolic tradition and subsequent revelation.

To attempt to comprehend the entire revealed Word of God from Scripture alone is like trying to play solitaire with an incomplete deck. “

"What did I post deceptively?"

I'm not buying the innocent "who, me?" line. You changed my posting from my assertion that Scripture was insufficient to the "Word of God" was insufficient. That isn't the first time my statements have been manipulated to imply what was never stated nor the first time that you danced around in a "Perry Mason" monument when it was done.I won't assert motive out of respect to the RM and Forum Rules, but I personally think it is a reprehensible.

My apologies for the mistake.

However, did you misunderstand the original post or was the deceptive interpretation unintentional?

Obviously the poster was saying that the PLAIN WORDING of Scripture in not sufficient or else why would there be such a disparity in the understanding of what seems to be very plain language?

In the gospel of John, Jesus clearly and most plainly, even, some might say, starkly says that one must eat His Body and drink His blood to have eternal life. Catholics take this passage as literal.

Many of His own disciples, men who had followed Him faithfully for years were aghast at this statement and walked away from Him. “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” When Jesus hears this question, He does not change His message to try to make it more palatable for the doubters. He very plainly reiterates that one must eat the flesh of the son of man and drink his blood to have life.

It is deceptive to claim that indeed each and every person who reads Scripture is guided by the Holy Spirit to complete and perfect understanding of what is written. It is deceptive because we know that within the Christian faith, there is much debate as to its meaning. Why would the Holy Spirit lead us all to different understandings and conclusions?

Everyone comes to the Bible influenced by some other person’s understanding. If someone were to pick it up to read without ever having heard of it, most likely their first reaction would be to find someone to help them, as the eunuch did in Acts.

Many protestant posters here link to or copy and paste the teachings of prominent protestant theologians to support their understanding, which is no different than what a Catholic does when looking to the Church for guidance.

The truth is that every one of us listens to the Word, ponders it in our hearts and accepts or rejects teachings on it. A Catholic can with a pure and sincere heart accept Catholic doctrine as Truth.

As a Catholic, I have asked the Holy Spirit to lead me. Jesus promised that “Ask and you shall receive. Knock and it shall be opened to you.” Has the Holy Spirit mislead me? Has Jesus allowed one of His sheep to be led astray?

No man is an island unto himself and Jesus most definitely understood this. That is why we are called His flock. Sheep are safest when they remain with the flock and Jesus is troubled when one is separated from that flock. That is why He tells the story of the one lost sheep that must be found and brought back into the fold.

Lastly, Jesus knew that the Apostles themselves needed help in understanding all that He had taught them which is why He promised them the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Praise and thanks be to God for that help as through the years there have been many heresies and misguided interpretations and understandings of His Word.
