That is not even close to what I said. What I said was that a doctrine that leads almost exclusively to misunderstanding scripture and closing one’s mind to criticism of the doctrine is of and from Satan.

How does any catholic know what is a misreading of scripture? They are by and large scripturally illiterate and ignorant of how to read it within context..

I do not blame catholics for that so much because their church tells them they are too dumb to read what God has written to them ..so the only one that can tell them what it means is.......surprise.....THEM.

Then in order to assure ignorance the church has NEVER compiled an authorized INFALLIBLE commentary of the entire bible ..they have never written a systematic theology from the scriptures.. so pity the poor catholic that has to trust his priests OPIS on sundays

1Cr 2:14 — But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know [them], because they are spiritually discerned.

Let's try keeping the slurs within spitting distance of reality. Reading the Bibles is so encourged that it is "indulgenced."

And in all seriosity, What do you all propose to be done by the devout illiterate who is also severely learning disabled or is just, say between 50 and 80 in the IQ scale? How does one provide Christian instruction for them?

" In that which the faithful hold in common to be the true Catholic faith, they are infallible and "cannot err in matters of belief".- Second Vatican Council.

THIS is how they "know".

There are countless Catholic commentaries on the Bible, from the early Apostolic Fathers all the way up to the present. Several lifetimes would not be enough to read through all of them.

http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/04157a.htm

There is a new 17-volume commentary being produced right now, with the approval of the Pope:

http://www.catholicscripturecommentary.com/

The argument that it is somehow wrong that there has not been a commentary produced by the Vatican and declared infallible, ex cathedra, is bogus. Very few pronouncements of the magisterium are declared infallible in an explicit way.
The idea that for something to be authoritative it must be pronounced ex cathedra is a faulty premise.

AMEN!

“They are by and large scripturally illiterate and ignorant of how to read it within context.”

No Catholic is as ignorant of scripture as you are of Catholicism.

And, sorry for the lack of charity, but a rational person must howl with derisive laughter at the spectacle of a protestant claiming more context than a Catholic.

And, of course you must be referring to the Calvinist excerpted Bible, which excerpts out texts and tracts for the raving Calvinist cult masses to refer to instead of a real, complete Bible, right?
