A young teenage girl who was a virgin at the time of her conception, who happened to have the correct lineage. And here's Jesus' response to someone who tried to elevate Mary at all. It was smack down time for her.

Here Jesus had the perfect opportunity to play off that and elevate Mary to the position which the Catholic church does, and He did not. HE put her back in her proper perspective, that is that she is no different than any other human being.

Like 11:27-28 As Jesus was saying these things, a woman in the crowd called out, "Blessed is the mother who gave you birth and nursed you." He replied, "Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it."

God is no respecter of persons. We shouldn't be either.

According to John 2:1, Mary was the earthly mother of Jesus.

According to the Catholic Church: "The Catholic Church has always and with justice put all her hope and trust in the Mother of God. She who is associated with him in the work of man's salvation has favor and power with her Son greater than any other human or angelic creature has ever obtained or ever can obtain."-Supreme Apostolatus. Pope Leo XIII.
