From the article: Utah historian Will Bagley says the reason this method of execution exists is rooted in Utah's history as a Mormon sanctuary. "I think we need to be honest about it. We have the last firing squads in the country as a legacy of Mormon theology," Bagley says. Some early Mormon leaders believed in blood atonement for the most egregious sins. "To atone for those, Jesus' blood didn't count. You had to shed your own blood," Bagley says.

Lds "prophet" Brigham Young consistently and repeatedly taught "blood atonement" -- where Mormons treated Jesus' blood as rather "anemic" to applying to serious sins...

Lds say they don't teach it today; but that's different than saying Young was "wrong" or a "false prophet" to teach it.

So often we hear “we don’t believe that anymore!” but Ronnie Gardner seems to believe it and I knew of other inmates in Utah who believed it as well.

Does the person making this post believe in the death penalty?

So is it that you are against the death penalty, or just that it is taking place in Utah?

Shooting violent criminals is a GOOD thing. Utah should do a lot more of it, and the other 49 states and the District of Columbia should get on the bandwagon too.

Execution by firing squads is allowable in Utah but also in Oklahoma and Idaho.

I think it's the prisoner's request.

Hand everyone a shotgun and use Saboted slugs.

That will end him quickly and humanely.

The LSM is interested in this method of execution in West because it isn’t by one today except Utah. For some reason the LSM doesn’t seem to be interested in Muslim methods of execution like beheadings.

IMO firing squad is the best execution method. It has a certain macabre romance about it.

Blood atonement was about the Old Testament but a little fact like that should not stop you from embellishing!

Matter of fact some Jewish sec today are waiting for a perfect Red Heifer for their atonement ceramony.

The Red Heifer.

“Utah death-row inmate Ronnie Lee Gardner is set to be executed by a firing squad on Friday. Thirty-five states allow the death penalty, but death by firing squad remains an option only in Utah.”

I think that this is totally wrong.

Historically, death by firing squad is considered an HONORABLE death.

Historically, a murderer of his kind certainly does not deserve an honorable death.

The historically proper method of execution for a murderer is by HANGING.

Utah should NOT allow murderers to choose a honorable death.

Those dad gummed mormons are just too danged nice.

Regardless of religious affiliation, executing this skunk was the right thing to do. Good riddance, his judgement day is here (not by us, but by the man upstairs). That’s a good thing.
