Your new lay bishop will be so busy with his day job, his home, and his ward, his stake obligations, the demands from members of the ward, the interminable amount of meetings that he must attend to all week, that his family will suffer because of the extracurricular demands placed on him. He will not get to reap the fruits of the Family Proclamation issued by SLC by being able to put his family first. By putting the needs of others first, he is shirking his duty to his family.
He will be too busy “working” for “free”.
And SLC continues to keep their overhead down by convincing people that it’s “the work of the lord”.
The turnover rate for bishops here in my area of SoCal is about once a year. Not 5 years as you mentioned.
