Priests are a gift from the Heart of Christ, Pope Benedict says
CNA ^ | 6/13/2010

Vatican City, Jun 13, 2010 / 10:58 am (CNA/EWTN News).- Thousands of pilgrims and faithful gathered at noon Sunday in St. Peter’s Square to pray the Angelus with the Holy Father. Before the prayer, he said that the fruits of the recently ended Year for Priests could never be measured, but are already visible and will continue to be ever more so.

“The priest is a gift from the heart of Christ, a gift for the Church and for the world. From the heart of the Son of God, overflowing with love, all the goods of the Church spring forth,” proclaimed Pope Benedict XVI. “One of those goods is the vocations of those men who, conquered by the Lord Jesus, leave everything behind to dedicate themselves completely to the Christian community, following the example of the Good Shepherd.”

The Holy Father described the priest as having been formed by “the same charity of Christ, that love which compelled him to give his life for his friends and to forgive his enemies.”

“Therefore,” he continued, “priests are the primary builders of the civilization of love.”

Benedict XVI exhorted priests to always seek the intercession of St. John Marie Vianney, whose prayer, the “Act of Love,” was prayed frequently during the Year for Priests, and “continues to fuel our dialogue with God.”

The pontiff also spoke about the close of the Year for Priests, which took place this past week and culminated with the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. He emphasized “the unforgettable days in the presence of more than 15,000 priests from around the world.”

The feast of the Sacred Heart is traditionally a “day of priestly holiness,” but this time it was especially so, Benedict XVI remarked.

Pope Benedict concluded his comments by noting that, in contemplating history, “one observes so many pages of authentic social and spiritual renewal which have been written by the decisive contribution of Catholic priests.” These were inspired “only by their passion for the Gospel and for mankind, for his true civil and religious freedom.”

“So many initiatives that promote the entire human being have begun with the intuition of a priestly heart,” he exclaimed.

The Pope then prayed the Angelus, greeted those present in various languages, and imparted his apostolic blessing.

Not very familiar with Scripture, are you?

Ever read Acts 2?

Yes. Are you advocating Communism based on the Bible?

“The will of God is to believe on His Son.”

...and much more on our parts...read the Bible.

“Jesus says that if we repent and turn to Jesus, we are no longer in condemnation...I believe Jesus”

...and Jesus says much more as does the Holy Spirit and The Word of God “Lord, Lord” but does not pray and live piously and charitably (i.e. does not do the will of His Father in Heaven) will be condemned.”...and much more than this...follow Jesus, follow God, follow the Holy Spirit.

I also "GUESS" that your APPARENT ignorance is willful out of envy for the blessings bestowed by God upon Catholics.

Everyone was reminded not to skirt the rules, however clumsily that may be.

And the use of "willful out of envy" is mind-reading.

It shouldn't be this difficult not to make this personal. Take you and me out of the discussion. Stick to the issue being discussed.

Don't talk about me and I won't talk about you.

And you know this how?

Based upon the same type of evidence that Jews died in concentration camps in Germany during WWII, that Mao killed upwards of 40 million of his own people, that Pol Pot killed 10 percent of the population of his country, and that the reason for enactment of the First Amendment for freedom of religion in the United States was enacted because of the different Protestant sects killing and persecuting each other.

Are you a trained psychologist who is capable of evaluating the mental state of thousands of dead people?

I'm not sure that Calvin killed thousands of people directly. Indirectly...

Less than what the Catholic Church uses to justify the papacy, one verse?

Negative. You've been given the verses numerous times.

And so on.

And since there is so little Scripture to support so much of Catholic Church doctrine, the RCC has to dictate that the traditions of the *church fathers* are of equal standing with Scripture to justify their fantasy fairy tales that they made up centuries after the fact and threaten church members with eternal condemnation (maranatha anathema) for not believing them, because otherwise nobody in their right minds would believe them.

Then I guess that all we Christians are crazy. Have a nice time in the sane world. I wish you luck.

Your post to annalex is worth repeating Alamo-Girl. It is in total Christian spirit. I commend you.

“”Thank you so much for your testimony, dear brother in Christ, and for your encouragement!

most “criticism” of Catholic soteriology that we’ve seen here is based on the ignorance of the critics.

I perceive the difference as the “observer problem” not ignorance on either side.

As a metaphor, consider the words of God as if they were a multi-faceted diamond. And God is Light.

A person looking at the diamond from one facet might see reflections or images of himself or others whereas another person looking at a different facet might see only the light.

The former would see a role for man in his own salvation. He would emphasize willful obedience and good works. For instance, he would probably highly value Mary’s consent - the part she played:

And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her. - Luke 1:38

Conversely, the one seeing no images in the diamond would see no role for man in his own salvation. He would perceive whatever good came of his life to be God’s doing. He would not value Mary’s consent, perceiving that no one and no thing can thwart the will of God.

And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to [our] father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham. - Matthew 3:9

Nevertheless, it is the same diamond and the same light.

As for me, the Light from the diamond blinds me to all other images. Compliments make me uncomfortable.

But at the same time, I do not perceive that those who see images in the diamond are in error and would only caution them to keep their priorities straight because “no light, no images.”

Then one of them, [which was] a lawyer, asked [him a question], tempting him, and saying, Master, which [is] the great commandment in the law?

Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment.

And the second [is] like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. – Matthew 22:35-40

If we don’t get keep our priorities straight, nothing we do will matter.

Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks; I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars: And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name’s sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted.

Nevertheless I have [somewhat] against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.

Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent. – Revelation 2:1-5

To God be the glory, not man, never man.””

I was advised by the RM that guesses were acceptable because it was an indication of what I was thinking. Besides, I'm guessing that no one went on break and left you in charge.

If your skin is that thin maybe you should stick to caucus threads and not wallow with actual Catholics. The imaginary ones you appear to discuss so often are so much more docile.

ACTUALLY,

it IS WRITTEN

IN THE UNrubberized Proddy Scriptures that

FAITH PRECEDES ANY WORKS OF RIGHTEOUSNESS

THAT ARE COUNTED IN ANY WAY AS TRUE RIGHTEOUSNESS.

Y’all ought to trade the Vatican rubber ‘Bible’ in on an authentic one.

The irrational convoluted hogwash of the Vatican INSTITUTION—particularly as represented by the rabid clique folks hereon, slices all kinds of unintended directions quite often.

They don’t seem to have the foresight to prevent it.

Of course, a lot of times, if they did, the only way they could prevent it would be to be utterly silent.

Well, Mark, sorry. What a baseless reply.

You are sorry for giving me a baseless reply? Okay, proceed.

Look at what the colonial powers of Europe left in their wake following the great period of the so-called colonization of the world. South America was a basket case, and still is saddled with bad government. All is a direct legacy of Spain and Portugal. Latin America ... basically the same story, and a direct legacy again of Spain, chiefly, and latterly, in the case of Mexico, France.

Ever been to Chicago? Tell me about the level of corruption there. New York City and Albany, New York? How about DC? Standing on the soap box and wailing about the corruption of other countries does what, when faced with such as Blagojevich? Ever seen the corrupt local governments in Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi? I lived by Detroit for 10 years. Mexico ain't got corrupt like Detroit. Coleman Young was the archetype for corrupt black mayors. He proved that while black mayors are not necessarily more corrupt than white ones, they often get there faster. Marion Barry in DC. Wanna trot out some more examples?

It is was England or, to a lesser extent, the Dutch, they did much better.

In that case, Bangladesh is a tropical paradise, right? Afghanistan is a model democracy. Iran is the go-to place in the middle East for vacations. And Scotland is where you want to go if you don't want to live past 50...

What you want to believe and what is believable are two entirely different things. Roman Catholicism breeds bad government because they do not properly separate the kingdom of God (spiritual) from the kingdom of power (secular).

Neither did Calvin, or the Puritans, or the Anglican/Episcopalians of the colonial era. Care to restate your case?

The pope dreams that he rules over Caesar, over the king.

Really? Prove it. Show me.

And priests and popes never used nuns in inappropriate ways either?

Those who did violate their oaths, including celibacy, will have to encounter the Judgement of God. I realize that the Reformed believe that the salvation limousine drives right by that House of Judgement, but every single one of us faces Him. If they sinned, then they sinned. If they violated their oaths, they violated their oaths. On their heads be it. Unlike the Reformed who don't believe that anything will occur to them no matter what they do...

Mark, you said Ireland was the "fasting growing economy in Europe" which was proven to be a ludicrous error.

Actually, Ireland's GDP FELL 7.5% last year.

You said Germany was primarily Roman Catholic when, in fact, Protestantism is the majority religion.

If you want to compare regions of Germany, the Protestant northern and western regions of Germany are MUCH more prosperous than papist Bavaria.

Remember who thrived in Bavaria? Those who employed your pope.

The rest of your post is blithering nonsense, none of which is supported by fact.

You continue to offer only smarmy, snide remarks in place of any cogent defense of your faith. Thankfully, your public posts fail for all to see.

Mark, to a Protestant mind, just enumerating the Three is "Trinity." IOW, as long as all Three are mentioned one way or another it is "Trinitarian." The theology behind the Holy Trinity, however, varies from one Protestant to another individually. That much is obvious form the posts on the FR alone.

Correct. The idea of Trinitarian doctrine is basically whatever they happen to 'feel' today.

Catholics are somewhat ambivalent to it; they can live with or without it in the Creed, because they hold that it is also true. The Orthodox reject it as the Credal statement, because "proceeds from the Father" to which the Creed alludes in the Greek original has to do with the eternal origin of the Holy Spirit, and not with the Pneumatic movement in the economy of our salvation.

Also correct. There are some that understand the Councils and their authority; but most Catholics don't really pay that much attention because we KNOW the Nicene Creed and its intention.

Thus, while nominally "Triniatrian," the mainline Protestants really do not have a dogmatic teaching on the Holy Trinity except that all three Hypostases are God (which is, of course, not what the NT authors ever mention).

All Protestants who believe in the Nicene Creed are essentially non Scriptural at that point, even when they kick and scream. The ones who believe in the coequal and coeternal Triune God are really not Bible believers at all, since there is no Scriptural proof of that belief.

How does one derive six Noahide laws form that is an enigma! But what do I know...I am being called a fool by people who believe in talking donkeys! :)

That's because they are used to talking to the image in the mirror.
