I’m curious to how Paul would feel about being called “insane”. Would he think it was offensive? Would he think it was harsh?

Consider the prayers that Catholics offer to saints, along with the claims that "they're not dead" and "they can hear us in Heaven". Consider the reverence / veneration that Catholics offer to Mary, the mother of Jesus. Now watch the backspin as a Catholic tries to justify saying that one of Christ's apostles was insane when he wrote his epistles.

For comparison's sake, try imagining the reaction from Catholics if a Protestant were to say that Mary was just experiencing severe PMS when she composed the Magnificat.

One can only imagine. They get the vapors when one merely suggests that she wasn't always a virgin but that she had a normal marriage relationship with Joseph as evidenced by His siblings.

And imply that she was not immaculately conceived, and you're banging on the gates of hell.
