Actually, they didn't, you can read it however you like, but they didn't say that.

Innocent III spoke of the "Church of the faithful" and Boniface VIII and Eugene IV both spoke of the Catholic Church. The word Catholic means UNIVERSAL.

It has been my experience that many non-Catholics believe what they WANT to believe about the Church and, of these, those who consider themselves "ex-Catholics" generally have the greatest misconceptions.

Mine, as well. When you leave the Church to either have Sundays open for recreation or else join some tent preacher's feelgood session, you really really need some sort of strong justification.
