7 When you pray, dont babble on and on as people of other religions do. They think their prayers are answered merely by repeating their words again and again. 8 Dont be like them, for your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him! 9 Pray like this: Our Father in heaven, --New Living Translation 7And when you pray, do not heap up phrases (multiply words, repeating the same ones over and over) as the Gentiles do, for they think they will be heard for their much speaking. [I Kings 18:25-29.] 8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him. 9Pray, therefore, like this: 15But if you do not forgive others their trespasses [their [j]reckless and willful sins, [k]leaving them, letting them go, and [l]giving up resentment], neither will your Father forgive you your trespasses. --Amplified Pray with Simplicity 5"And when you come before God, don't turn that into a theatrical production either. All these people making a regular show out of their prayers, hoping for stardom! Do you think God sits in a box seat? 6"Here's what I want you to do: Find a quiet, secluded place so you won't be tempted to role-play before God. Just be there as simply and honestly as you can manage. The focus will shift from you to God, and you will begin to sense his grace. 7-13"The world is full of so-called prayer warriors who are prayer-ignorant. They're full of formulas and programs and advice, peddling techniques for getting what you want from God. Don't fall for that nonsense. This is your Father you are dealing with, and he knows better than you what you need. With a God like this loving you, you can pray very simply. Like this: 16-18"When you practice some appetite-denying discipline to better concentrate on God, don't make a production out of it. It might turn you into a small-time celebrity but it won't make you a saint. If you 'go into training' inwardly, act normal outwardly. Shampoo and comb your hair, brush your teeth, wash your face. God doesn't require attention-getting devices. He won't overlook what you are doing; he'll reward you well. |

Jesus Himself called people to Himself. Isn't that good enough for Catholics? They need Mary to tell them as well?
If they're not going to listen when Jesus calls them, why would they listen when Mary tells them what to do?
Couldn't they just follow her example without her telling them what to do?
Has the Catholic church got its adherents so brainwashed that they can't think for themselves and make their own decisions? They have to have someone do it for them?
Amen. All good questions. Seriously.
It’s kind of a stubborn perverseness in men to worship a human when they have God. Old as the oak strewn hills.
They need to study the word of God to show themselves approved.
“Or did Christ tell us specifically to address our prayers to the Triune God?”
Alright Sugar, this came up in my class on Romans this morning (I think it was a diversion so as not to deal with “bless those that curse you”)so I will ask you the same question I asked them; Where in scripture does it give us leave to pray to anyone but the Father?
He burneth part thereof in the fire; with part thereof he eateth flesh; he roasteth roast, and is satisfied: yea, he warmeth himself, and saith, Aha, I am warm, I have seen the fire: And the residue thereof he maketh a god, even his graven image: he falleth down unto it, and worshippeth it, and prayeth unto it, and saith, Deliver me; for thou art my god. They have not known nor understood: for he hath shut their eyes, that they cannot see; and their hearts, that they cannot understand. And none considereth in his heart, neither is there knowledge nor understanding to say, I have burned part of it in the fire; yea, also I have baked bread upon the coals thereof; I have roasted flesh, and eaten it: and shall I make the residue thereof an abomination? shall I fall down to the stock of a tree? He feedeth on ashes: a deceived heart hath turned him aside, that he cannot deliver his soul, nor say, Is there not a lie in my right hand?" -- Isaiah 44:15-20"Then shall it be for a man to burn: for he will take thereof, and warm himself; yea, he kindleth it, and baketh bread; yea, he maketh a god, and worshippeth it; he maketh it a graven image, and falleth down thereto.
I would think that nine months in the womb is a pretty extensive go-between period.
The Word Incarnate taking flesh and bone from His mother was a pretty extensive go-between happening.
Thirty years in the house at Nazareth was a pretty extensive go-between period.
There isn’t any need to down-play or set aside the reality of Mary’s presence in the life of Christ.
And in the end, she was there at the Cross, and there in the Upper Room.
“Behold the handmaid of the Lord.”
“My soul magnifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.”
As to whether the Catholic church DIS-courages Bible reading I leave to to Catholics to say what attitude comes to them. The position of the Catholic church as to the relative importance of the Bible as a source of doctrinal authority, however, is quite clear:
“Holy Scripture is therefore not the only theological source of the Revelation made by God to His Church. Side by side with Scripture there is tradition, side by side with the written revelation there is the oral revelation. This granted, it is impossible to be satisfied with the Bible alone for the solution of all dogmatic questions. Such was the first field of controversy between Catholic theologians and the Reformers.”(Catholic Encyclopedia)
"Now I pray to God that ye do no evil; not that we should appear approved, but that ye should do that which is honest, though we be as reprobates." -- 2 Corinthians 13:7
Is "God" always Triune?
Any woman graced by God to carry the Christ child to term would be exactly like Mary. She was interchangeable.
Christ is not. Christ is God. And Jesus Christ is the ONLY mediator between God and men.
LOL...I showed you where the proof text you offered were out of context and the best response you have is to call me a name?
You do realize that gnosticism was alive and well at the time of the church fathers ???
Please point out what I said in my post that was gnostic ... or take it back “dear sister’
“Is “God” always Triune?”
I don’t recall where the singular “God” is ever referenced to Jesus or the Holy Spirit; but it is to the Father. No where in scripture does anyone give authority to pray specifically to Jesus or the Holy Spirit but it does to to the Father and both Jesus and the Holy Spirit are sent to do the will of the Father. “Nothing can separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus”.
Actually, the reason I insert "Triune" in those statements is to differentiate them from the beliefs of our Mormon FRiends who might say something similar and mean something quite different.
It's shorthand for "I'M NOT A MORMON, DOOFUS!"
And also with you.
I think I’ll join the rest who won’t answer you anymore.
So a little heresy is OK as long as you obey Rome ?
God does not hear the prayers of the unsaved.. so maybe this is as good as it gets for them huh?
Jesus is so lucky to have mary to tell Him what to do, He would not know how to be God without her huh?
Nobody is denying the role Mary played in Jesus’ life as His mother.
Once He started His ministry, she had no role in it, even to the point of HIM downplaying her maternal relationship to Him.
The only time that He acknowledges it is when He passes on the responsibility of her care to John.
Her being at the cross is what any mother would do, and she wasn’t the only one there. That doesn’t make her special enough to pray to and to *Adore* and label as *Advocate*, *Medidatrix*, or *Co-Redemptrix*.
That’s all blasphemy.
Jesus NEVER ONCE made reference to her as being part of His plan of salvation. Mary didn’t. Peter didn’t. It’s found NOWHERE in the NT. If Catholics have to appeal to tradition to justify a doctrine or teaching, they have strayed far from the truth.
I guess nobody likes to be exposed.
I understand.
Go figure.
