GIVE IT ALL TO . . . ? . . . .

--A Research Thread--

. . .

.

7 “When you pray, don’t babble on and on as people of other religions do. They think their prayers are answered merely by repeating their words again and again. 8 Don’t be like them, for your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him! 9 Pray like this:

Our Father in heaven,
may your name be kept holy.
10 May your Kingdom come soon.
May your will be done on earth,
as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today the food we need,[a]
12 and forgive us our sins,
as we have forgiven those who sin against us.
13 And don’t let us yield to temptation,[b]
but rescue us from the evil one.[c]

--New Living Translation

7And when you pray, do not heap up phrases (multiply words, repeating the same ones over and over) as the Gentiles do, for they think they will be heard for their much speaking. [I Kings 18:25-29.]

8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.

9Pray, therefore, like this:

Our Father Who is in heaven, hallowed (kept holy) be Your name.
10Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
11Give us this day our daily bread.
12And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven ([e]left, remitted, and let go of the debts, and have [f]given up resentment against) our debtors.
13And lead (bring) us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

14For if you forgive people their trespasses [their [g]reckless and willful sins, [h]leaving them, letting them go, and [i]giving up resentment], your heavenly Father will also forgive you.

15But if you do not forgive others their trespasses [their [j]reckless and willful sins, [k]leaving them, letting them go, and [l]giving up resentment], neither will your Father forgive you your trespasses.

--Amplified

Pray with Simplicity

5"And when you come before God, don't turn that into a theatrical production either. All these people making a regular show out of their prayers, hoping for stardom! Do you think God sits in a box seat?

6"Here's what I want you to do: Find a quiet, secluded place so you won't be tempted to role-play before God. Just be there as simply and honestly as you can manage. The focus will shift from you to God, and you will begin to sense his grace.

7-13"The world is full of so-called prayer warriors who are prayer-ignorant. They're full of formulas and programs and advice, peddling techniques for getting what you want from God. Don't fall for that nonsense. This is your Father you are dealing with, and he knows better than you what you need. With a God like this loving you, you can pray very simply. Like this:

Our Father in heaven,
Reveal who you are.
Set the world right;
Do what's best— as above, so below.
Keep us alive with three square meals.
Keep us forgiven with you and forgiving others.
Keep us safe from ourselves and the Devil.
You're in charge!
You can do anything you want!
You're ablaze in beauty!
Yes. Yes. Yes.

14-15"In prayer there is a connection between what God does and what you do. You can't get forgiveness from God, for instance, without also forgiving others. If you refuse to do your part, you cut yourself off from God's part.

16-18"When you practice some appetite-denying discipline to better concentrate on God, don't make a production out of it. It might turn you into a small-time celebrity but it won't make you a saint. If you 'go into training' inwardly, act normal outwardly. Shampoo and comb your hair, brush your teeth, wash your face. God doesn't require attention-getting devices. He won't overlook what you are doing; he'll reward you well.
--THE MESSAGE

Mark Kirby:

O Mother of Good Counsel,
Mother of Perpetual Help,
I turn with confidence to thy maternal Heart,
and I renew my total and irrevocable consecration to thee.

I am all thine, Most Holy Mary,
and all that I have is thine.
I give thee my past with its burdens.
I give thee this present moment with its anxieties and fears.
I give thee my future and all that it holds.

There is no part of my life that is not open to thee,
no place so secret, or so darkened by sin
that thy presence and thy influence
are not wholly and ardently desired there.

I want to be completely transparent with thee,
utterly simple, guileless, and childlike.
Thou knowest, O Mother,
all my preoccupations,
all my intentions,
and all those recommended to my prayer.
Take them, I beseech thee, to thy Immaculate Heart
and, as my Advocate, my all-powerful intercessor, and my Mediatrix,
present them to thy Son.
Seeing them presented by thee
and held in thy maternal Heart,
there is nothing that He will not do
to give to each intention the one response
worthy of the infinite mercy and love of His Sacred Heart.

Praying in this way, I can be at rest,
for thou art my Mother,
and all that I entrust to thee will be,
I am sure,
received, and considered, and cared for
with a Mother's love.
Amen.

People obey, follow, and worship an edifice?

I don’t believe that. All the people I know worship God, His Only Begotten Son Christ Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. I’ve never seen anyone worship an edifice.

Yes and no.

It does say He cannot lie and that He never changes.

Yet, Moses changed His mind.

Yet His character etc. never changes.

I don’t believe He ‘can’ do anything against His character, nature etc.

I don’t believe he ‘can’ be unloving. God is love.

He’s never going to stop being Love.

imho.

I'm not the measure of Scripture nor claimed to be but the writers of the Scripture were the measure of the Christian doctrine.

1 John 2: 18,19. Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.
They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.

2 Peter 2:1-3 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.
And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of
And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.

2 Thess. 2 5-7 Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things ?
And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.
For the mystery of iniquity doth already work only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.

The worship of Mary, the hierarchy of priests, the moral rot, mark all such statements of heresy and pridefullness as
laughable.

The wheat and weeds were growing even before the apostles died and each is bearing its fruitage for all to see.

Anyway, you’ve heard about “The Ashes” by the alter right? But what the Bible doesn’t tell you is that they came by way of a googly zooter round the wicket.

Ummm...noooo...and I'm afraid to ask. :o)

Doesn’t wash.

I’ve documented abundant examples of the opposite.

And, we’ve seen the opposite from many posters hereon.

p.50
4 - “By becoming Mother of God, Mary belongs to the order of hypostatic union; hence, she participates in the infinite sanctity of God.”

—Ferraro

but one horrific example amongst many.

By opposite I mean—not mere ‘love’ but abject worship.

The worship is couched in half a dozen euphemisms—still—to the observer, it would qualify as worship in a list of ways.

First of all that is almost 300 years after Christ, it is not contemporary. 2) This is a false teaching because the ark was a type of Christ , not Mary 3) The church fathers were not infallible and often were at odds or disagreed on doctrine among themselves . Reading this quote makes me wonder about the salvation of the author to be honest

= = =

INDEED.

There’s always been a LOT of picking and choosing amongst the early Christian records, imho. They are faithful Christians when the Roman Catholic edifice can find sufficient affirmation of it’s ‘exclusivity’ in their writings. And . . . they are labeled heretics when that’s not the case.

I’m curious to how Paul would feel about being called “insane”. Would he think it was offensive? Would he think it was harsh?

What’s wrong with seeing people on the road to damnation and wanting to point them to the Gate? Is anything more important than a person’s eternal life? How can one be obsessed with such? Is any amount of concern over it too much?

For comparison’s sake, try imagining the reaction from Catholics if a Protestant were to say that Mary was just experiencing severe PMS when she composed the Magnificat.

The biggest win the Catholic church has made against its adherents is convincing them that they are incapable of reading and understanding the plain meaning of Scripture themselves, but that it must be interpreted for them, by the clergy of the Catholic church, of course.

If Catholics started reading and understanding on their own, they’d see that there’s very little Scriptural support for most of the doctrine of the Catholic church.

Just like liberals, an educated constituency is a threat to their grip on power.

You guys are not stupid. You are capable of reading and understanding the clear meaning of the Bible. It doesn’t need to be interpreted FOR you by other mere men. They are human just like you are and are just as likely to be prone to error as you are.

They have no special inside track on the truth, any more than any one else has.

Goodness. You seem to have an extremely short memory. Have you had it checked recently?

You were asserting that Paul who scribed most of the New Testament was insane. I read it with my own eyes.

Paul was so “obsessed” with people’s eternal life that he pleaded day and night, in tears, for years, so that they would turn to the truth. That is a burden for souls that Christ desires all his disciples to have.

“He’s God. He can do whatever he wants. “

The “He’s God. He can do whatever he wants. “ is generally the false premise used by atheist in thinking that they are posing some kind of clever argument against God.

It is not true, therefore ANY argument for or against God using that premise is useless and a waste of breath.

If you're going to debate something, at least start with something that can even be remotely considered true.
