7 When you pray, dont babble on and on as people of other religions do. They think their prayers are answered merely by repeating their words again and again. 8 Dont be like them, for your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him! 9 Pray like this: Our Father in heaven, --New Living Translation 7And when you pray, do not heap up phrases (multiply words, repeating the same ones over and over) as the Gentiles do, for they think they will be heard for their much speaking. [I Kings 18:25-29.] 8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him. 9Pray, therefore, like this: 15But if you do not forgive others their trespasses [their [j]reckless and willful sins, [k]leaving them, letting them go, and [l]giving up resentment], neither will your Father forgive you your trespasses. --Amplified Pray with Simplicity 5"And when you come before God, don't turn that into a theatrical production either. All these people making a regular show out of their prayers, hoping for stardom! Do you think God sits in a box seat? 6"Here's what I want you to do: Find a quiet, secluded place so you won't be tempted to role-play before God. Just be there as simply and honestly as you can manage. The focus will shift from you to God, and you will begin to sense his grace. 7-13"The world is full of so-called prayer warriors who are prayer-ignorant. They're full of formulas and programs and advice, peddling techniques for getting what you want from God. Don't fall for that nonsense. This is your Father you are dealing with, and he knows better than you what you need. With a God like this loving you, you can pray very simply. Like this: 16-18"When you practice some appetite-denying discipline to better concentrate on God, don't make a production out of it. It might turn you into a small-time celebrity but it won't make you a saint. If you 'go into training' inwardly, act normal outwardly. Shampoo and comb your hair, brush your teeth, wash your face. God doesn't require attention-getting devices. He won't overlook what you are doing; he'll reward you well. |

And we know they’ve been passed down accurately how? when the written word itself is alleged to not have been passed down accurately (meanings lost in the translation, unreliable manuscripts, questions about which books should even be included, etc).
So, what exactly are these primary teachings of Jesus that have been passed down orally that are more important that the written ones?
MB>They related many of them, sure. But the primary teachings were oral, not written.
I'll take the Holy Word of G-d. That seems very Gnostic to me.
shalom b'SHEM Yah'shua HaMashiach
I just had an alleged thought.
Heh. Did it hurt? Try a tight cap and a pair of ear plugs if it ever happens again... :P
You guys and we agree that there are impostors, pretenders, as it were, to the title "Queen of Heaven."
That is not what I said - I do not believe there are pretenders to the title. I believe there is one who uses that title, and has used it throughout known history, albeit in many forms. There is no true "Queen of Heaven", or the Bible would have told us so. The closest we have is Christ's virginal Bride, and reference or two that points to New Jerusalem.
There have been pretenders to the title "Son of God." That does by no means prove that there is no real Son of God.
Their are many who are sons of "gods" - Men of old of great renown... The Nephilim. I have *no* problem associating Hercules with the Nephilim, for example, nor associating his parent, and the other pantheistic "gods" with the fallen ones.
not to say, however, that there were no pretenders to the actual Messianic Son of God figure, and to the figure of the Father... But one must discriminate between these and generic "sons of the gods."
I would also submit that there is one of each of these pantheistic gods, each of whom has been inherited from one culture to the next. Each and every one is a demon or offspring thereof.
But when we speak of the Queen of Heaven, you all pretend that we are blurring her with Astarte and Parvati and who knows what all.
Parvati... You mean that fat opera singer dude??? That's kinda weird... :P
No rlly, k: I would find more technical agreement with you if the "mother" figure, and the "goddess of heaven" shtick had any basis in the Prophecy, or in the Old Covenant. This mother goddess is completely foreign to the foundations of the Judeo-Christian system - Unless of course, one is willing to wrest the words from vague places in a way that would make your average gnostic blush...
Suffice it to say that the mother/goddess figure is not referred to in anywhere near the frequency of the Christ, or even various prophets in the Judeo-Christian tradition.
Just as I do not find my faith in Jesus as the only-begotten Son of God weakened by the claims of Krishna or Hercules, so my confidence that the Mother of the King is rightly given the courtesy of Queen is not shaken however long your list of pretenders might be.
But the Messiah is well documented in the Old Covenant- several hundred instances point directly to Him, who we know as Jesus of Nazareth. The prophecy confirms Him as the Son of God, and no one else can fit that bill.
There is no such provenance for the mother figure which Mary has been turned into.
Just got this in email. Maybe you’ve seen it:
The Upside (a weekly humor column) 5-9-10
Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary
“Look at you!” said Mary, holding her son Jesus’ bearded face between her hands. “All baptized now! What an event! Now come back to the house for matzah balls and fig cake. Everyone’s coming over to celebrate, even though I don’t have enough chairs. My son is a carpenter and I don’t have enough chairs. Go figure!”
“Thanks, Mom, but I can’t.”
“And tell your cousin John that when he’s finished baptizing everyone else today, there’s a bacon, locust and tomato sandwich waiting specially for him. He’s an odd one, but he’s fam— what did you say?”
“I can’t be there, Mom. The Holy Spirit is sending me right away on a mission.”
“A mission? What mission? It can wait until tomorrow. Today you need dry clothes and a plate of matzah balls.”
“Mother... it’s time. Time I began fulfilling my ultimate purpose. You remember what the angel told you way back when. And if I’m going to carry out the work the Father has for me, it has to begin this very minute.”
“Fig cake. Your favorite.”
“I love you, Mom. I’ll be back in forty days.”
“Forty days?? I could be dead by then! I will be dead by then— dead from dismay that my son didn’t show up at his own baptism party! Is this how you love your mother? And what’s so important you need to be gone for forty days?”
“Before I can begin my ministry, I have to be tested. I’m to undergo forty days of temptation by Satan, alone in the desert.”
“My baby!!”
“Mom, try not to worry. I can do this. I’ve been preparing for it all my life.”
“I’m going with you.”
“You can’t.”
“I’m your mother and I’ve been looking after you since you were a halo in my belly. I’m going with you.”
“Mom, I know you’ll always see me as your baby, but I’m thirty years old now. I have to leave the nest. This trial in the desert is for me alone.”
“You want to be tempted? Stay here and be tempted by the weaver’s daughter, Rachel. I want grandchildren from you.”
“Mom, do you remember that time when I was ten and I bought you those roses for Mother’s Day?”
“How could I forget?”
“Do you remember how sad I was when I entered the house with them? I was so disappointed because I wanted to buy you a dozen roses but I could only afford half that many.”
“You were always the sweetest little lamb.”
“Do you recall what you did with those six roses?” Jesus smiled and took his mother’s hands in his.
Mary chuckled softly. “I do. I put them in a vase and then placed them on the mantelpiece in front of the mirror so there would be a reflection. ‘There,’ I said. ‘There’s my dozen roses.’”
Jesus wrapped his arms around her. “And just like you did with those half-dozen roses,” he said, “I have faith that God will do a similar thing with me in the wilderness. He will double my resolve, He will double my courage, He will double my desire to serve only Him.” Now he looked into her eyes. “I’m going to win. And then I’ll come home for awhile.” He smiled again. “See you in forty days.”
Mary’s heart ached with a mother’s unfathomable love. She knew she had to let him go. There was only one thing left to say.
“Are you wearing fresh underwear? If you get into a scuffle with Satan and he sees holes in your underwear, he’ll think ‘What kind of a mother does this boy have?’ I’ll be so embarrassed.”
“Matzah balls, Mom. I want a big plate of them when I get back.”
To all the moms out there: Happy Mother’s Day!
Cuyler
Yeah. What you said.
Good post!
VERY WELL PUT.
THX THX.
Why do you suppose very humble Saints throughout history disagree with what you think the Bible says?..
Do you think you think God reveals things to you that were not revealed to Saint Irenaues,Augustine,Aquinas, Pio etc...?Do you believe God gave you intellectual gifts above these people. I'm not seeing this at all
Nothing I said about the teachings of Catholicism was wrong
I disagree with you.Why should anyone believe you? There is nothing much different about you than anyone else that opposes some Church teachings?
I once approached the Archbishop's office and presented him with a list of things I found that didn't jive with the Scriptures, and he never rejected any of them, which surprised me and my friend who went with me.
What's to stop any nut from presenting a list to any Archbishop? It probably happens often from radicals who think they are some special modern prophet who usually misunderstands the scriptures
Did you have an appointment, because it sounds like you just approached the Archbishop without asking?
Jesus passed His teachings on to the Apostles, who passed them on to the Church. We have certain writings, some Scripture, some not. But the Church, according to Scripture, is the final authority, not individual men.
The primary teachings of Jesus are found in the Catechism.
Gnostic is internally derived knowledge. The Church has been given the Deposit of the Faith. Hardly internal. Hardly Gnostic. We leave that to those who claim that God speaks directly to them. Say hi for me, would you?
“The problem with Scripture-only is that you are missing the primary teachings of Christ.”
.
This has to be the most outrageous lie that has ever been posted to the Religion Forum!
All of the teachings of Christ are contained in the gospels and the epistles. The rest is antichrist teachings that the Catholic church depends on for its control of the masses (i.e. “the doctrines of the nicolaitanos”).
The Roman "church" is a syncretic amalgamshalom b'SHEM Yah'shua HaMashiach
created at Nicea by a pagan Emperor. The Holy Word of G-d was impugned
and replaced by pagan feasts. That is the special knowledge of which I speak.
Are you accusing me of lying?
Oh, like this one? That anyone who’s not Catholic goes to hell?

Outside the Church there is no salvation
846 How are we to understand this affirmation, often repeated by the Church Fathers?335 Re-formulated positively, it means that all salvation comes from Christ the Head through the Church which is his Body:
Basing itself on Scripture and Tradition, the Council teaches that the Church, a pilgrim now on earth, is necessary for salvation: the one Christ is the mediator and the way of salvation; he is present to us in his body which is the Church. He himself explicitly asserted the necessity of faith and Baptism, and thereby affirmed at the same time the necessity of the Church which men enter through Baptism as through a door. Hence they could not be saved who, knowing that the Catholic Church was founded as necessary by God through Christ, would refuse either to enter it or to remain in it.336
847 This affirmation is not aimed at those who, through no fault of their own, do not know Christ and his Church:
Those who, through no fault of their own, do not know the Gospel of Christ or his Church, but who nevertheless seek God with a sincere heart, and, moved by grace, try in their actions to do his will as they know it through the dictates of their conscience - those too may achieve eternal salvation.337
And how long were these oral traditions passed down, word of mouth before they were written down so that they didn’t change any?
Are they His words, or just what someone says He said?
I know nothing of a Roman "church". Do you?
The Holy Word of G-d was impugned and replaced by pagan feasts.
It is impossible to impugn Jesus and replace Him with pagan feasts. Are you sure of what you are posting?
In English or in Latin or in Greek?
If you are accusing the Church of lying, then you must also reject your Bible; the words in your Bible are those that the Church says should be there. One or the other. You cannot have it both ways.
